Clos du Val Wine Co.
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Popped and poured, no formal notes. This bottle has been stored in my cellar since release. I have always appreciated the restrained expression of Clos du Val however, this was enjoyed after the 2005 “Caravina” and there is a very clear difference in class between the two. The Seavey had a level of energy, sophistication and polish that the CdV just couldn’t match, even though it was 8 years younger. However, there was a subtle charm to it and if enjoyed on its own, would have made more of an impression. The profile was dark, with loads of earth. Structure was firm but in balance with the fruit. Finish was medium. Built for another decade but probably won’t improve.

Always impressive not one of there heavy hitters - but for a entry level Cabernet Sauvignon deep fruit bigger tannins but balanced by the fruit big currants and spice

Feb 7th, 2018Great aromatic display with dark cherries, plums, cassis, graphite, violets, smoke, incense, spices, subtle vanilla. Nice crunchy texture on the palate with sweet dark fruit flavors on entry, fresh midpalate with medium acidity, licorice, and dark chocolate notes. Long finish dominated by youthful tannins with baking spices, small hint of mint & herbs, and creamy vanilla.

7 people found it helpfulJan 24th, 2016Second of the blind reds for this quarter's S&E Wine Club. Theme was Chardonnays for white wine and red wines you can purchase at grocery stores.
Dark ruby with a purplish hue. Sweet spices on the nose with some black fruits, yet restrained. Heavy tannins (7/10) and medium bodied. Lots of oak on the palate with light dark fruits. Dry and long finish. Drink till 2028.
Definite potential but needs some more time to integrate and develop. (88+)

Tasted blind the wine is classic Napa cabernet, however the palate leaves a little to be desired.
Dark and almost purple in the glass, with black and red fruits and bell peppers and oak influence, and the palate is complex enough but not entirely engaging. It doesn't last long but it's pleasant as it goes down.

A brooding style, with serious fruit, concentration of fruit, tannins and acidity to age, but lacking freshness. Good buy.

Jun 10th, 2016Cedar, loam and dark fruit. Intense fruit in the mouth, it's medium bodied, with good acidity. This is a food friendly Napa Cab, which is more and more uncommon.
