Deep dark scarlet. Nice vibrant color. Very direct nose. Notes of tart cherries, pencil lead, cranberries, moist soil and some tree bark. Very rich in the mouth. Nice acidity, tannins soft and integrated. Still young and primary. Needs more age and development.

Love my son, love this restaurant and love the Red Sox - getting a heavy of all that is good in the world as my son and I are enjoying his birth year wine and we will enjoy a great baseball game tomorrow - total smiles tonight

Dense, powerful, structured, blackberry, black raspberry, iron, cedar, long finish. Best after 2 hours decanted.

A very intense, brooding nose. Dark red and blue fruit with iodine, and savory bloody sour cherry. Some dried herbal notes. Pretty impressive. A beautiful brute.

The 2014 Montrose has a bouquet that exudes class and sophistication: pure and mineral-driven black fruit, cedar and pencil lead, hints of blueberry developing with aeration although it never impedes upon the sense of terroir. The palate is medium-bodied with graphite-tinged black fruit, filigree tannin, a sweet core of blackberry and boysenberry fruit with a satin-like texture towards the finish. There is obviously some high quality oak used here, but it is simpatico with the fruit. For Montrose, you might argue that this is more modern in style and yet it is undeniably crafted with real panache to create a modern classic. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, March 2018)

Extremely funky, in a slightly good way though, dirty wine making on this one.
