Château de Saint-Cosme
Côtes du Rhône Syrah
This was good, but suffered for having to follow Manuel's exceptional Mil Cepas Cencibel. Holding very well from Magnum and can even improve with additional age.

Sep 15th, 2022This bruiser fights well above its humble price tag! Even though it is a "lowly" C.D.R it has tons of dark fruit, smoke, earth, and a spice component. I would absolutely believe you if you told me this was from a more prestigious AOC from the northern Rhone.
To quote James Molesworth, this is "rock solid." Cheers to the best Rhone value I've had all year!

Complex flavors of peppered bacon, blackberry jam, & plum with a hint of tobacco. This silky smooth French Syrah sings to me, and is a steal under $20! #baconwine #blackwinedelight

Blind I would swear this was northern Rhone. I guess that it being all syrah may be part of the reason, but either way this is delicious - not to mention a crazy value that may be my new week night go to. Only complaint is that it runs a tad hot on the nose, but that's more than made up for on the palate with raspberry, blackberry, and gamey pepper flavors. Nicely balanced with a savory finish. Give it some time to open up, an hour seemed to do it for me.

Intense nose of blackberries, currants, plums, cherries, earth, dirt, licorice, leather, oak, vanilla, smoke, raspberries, black pepper and spices.
Medium to full bodied, with medium acidity and great legs.
Dry and fruity on the palate, with cherries, blueberries, raspberries, black currants, earth, forest floor, black olives, leather, oak, vanilla, pencil lead, spices and peppercorn.
Long finish with firm tannins and black pepper.
A very enjoyable CDR. Nicely balanced with a great mouth feel, finesse and finish. Enjoyable by itself or with food. I paired it with chicken flatbread.
100% Syrah grapes grown on limestone sands and red clay.
Needs 1 hour to properly open up, but good right out of the bottle too.
14.5% alcohol by volume.

Cool. Loads of fruit; fresh raspberry, cherry, plum. Kind of sour on the palate. High density. $11.25 btg G

1 person found it helpfulMar 29th, 2016Solid Syrah-based CDR for $14. Dark dry fruit, mostly hints of plum, cassis, and minerals (iron/blood?). Had with a pepperoni pizza but I think it would probably go better with roast beef, grilled sausages, or steak. Just wanted to add that it really opened up after a couple of hours and had loads of dark fruit and spice. Fairly big and generous with the black fruit--just needs some time to open up
