Deep garnet red in appearance. Well rounded nose with truffles, forest floor, black currants, smoke and aniseed. Medium plus tannins (7.5/10) and full bodied. A lot of red fruits on the palate and very dry followed by some branches, cherries, herbs and some light spices. Long finish. Drink till 2036.

Deep ruby red in appearance. Rich and dark nose with layers of black plums, cassis, black pepper, violet undertone and a bit of minerality. Heavy tannins (7/10) and full bodied. Layered palate with graphite, black cassis, violets and baking spices. Long, lingering and dry finish. Drink till 2045.

My first time experiencing this wine and what a fantastic display of Bordeaux. Decanted four hours and drank over the next 4+. 50% Cab Franc and 50% Merlot and oh so sexy. Something about the blend that emits this fragrance that is very alluring...sandalwood and black currant come to mind. On the front of the palate gives a hint of BBQ smoke and cocoa with those flavors carrying through to reveal a sweet side. Finish that goes for well over a minute. After the 7th hour the wine had faded and closed.

The 2014 Angélus is now really beginning to blossom. It has an outstanding bouquet with plush but delineated black cherry and cassis fruit, crushed violet and just a hint of pencil lead. There is wonderful focus here. The palate is medium-bodied with tightly knit black fruit, graphite and spice. There is weight and presence, but it is effortlessly counterbalanced by the freshness and acidity, whilst the finish if extraordinarily long. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, March 2018)

Not in my typical wheelhouse but has that hedonistic likability. Extra special to be drinking it with the owner at the estate! (Played "America the Beautiful" on the bells atop the Chateau upon our appearance!)
