Now we’re talking. 2017. Drinking beautifully. Dark fruits, present and grippy but not overwhelming tannins. (Way more interesting than the Brunello I just tried.)

Well aged... couldn't imagine cellaring it any longer.

San (Happy Birthday) Lorenzo!

Great balance between high acidity, pronounce fruit intensity and the relatively high alcohol. Silky tannins, full bodied with sour cherry, violet, leather, black cherry, violet, cedar and plum. Long finish.

So elegant and classy. I paired this with homemade pizza with chorizo and red onion.
It offers complex and completely resolved dried red fruit notes, still lively but rounded tannin and excellent balance in the acidity. In a really great place where it is difficult to parse the individual parts but the whole is immensely satisfying.

Made detailed notes and then lost them....must be an over 70’s thing. This wine was #6 in the 2014 Wine Spectator Top 100. Not your typical Chianti Classico with a small 7% of Merlot and 10% Malvasia Nera with small oak maturation. The first of 5. Some cherry/ red fruited notes. Savoury dry tannins. I prefer the more traditional style of CC.

Good Chianti. Doesn’t deliver for the price point.

The 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Ama San Lorenzo is a fabulous choice for readers looking for an Ama wine to drink now. Radiant and expressive, with striking depth and exceptional balance, the 2017 is pure seduction. Sweet red cherry, kirsch, rose petal, blood orange and spice fill out the layers effortlessly. This is so beautifully done. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2021)

Beautiful aromatics strong acidity and great tannin. Could easily age for 5 more years. Strong fresh red and blue fruit with savory tannin and finish. Does better with more air.
