Ruby red color with aromas of berry fruit and earthy herb spice. On the palate flavors of tart cherry and raspberry, savory with black pepper notes. Fine tannins, medium finish ending savory with fruit and herb mineral spice.

Nice ruby red and filled with punchy red and black fruit. Has that smucker’s bit to it, but also some pronounced clay.

Funky on the nose but easy to drink. A little acidic but is opening up slowly. Lots of cherry on the palate.

Pretty, approachable, lightly-extracted. Showing some CO2 and sweet, candy-like cherry and raspberry fruit. Think Starburst or Skittles.

Clear, deep red purple. Nose of brambly blackberry. Palate of blackberries and creme de cassis. Medium acidity and medium tannins on the dark finish. Easy drinking, food-friendly red that's a good intro to the variety.

Lots of oak. Heavy on the nose, fairly stinky. Pallet is tart cherry, but nothing exciting. Need food, very typical.

The 2021 Nero d'Avola punches well above its price point with a burst of lavender, violet and blackberry on the nose. This is soft textured yet juicy to the core, with depths of sweet cherry offset by vibrant acidity. The 2021 finishes classically dry with a subtle tug of dusty tannins. $15.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, January 2023)

The 2019 Nero d'Avola from Colosi wafts up with a dark, alluring bouquet of crushed rocks, peppery herbs and black currants. Its silky textures are complemented by mineral-tinged, sweet wild berries with zesty acids. Shades of lavender define the finale. $15.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, May 2021)
