Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 2019 classico pours a garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of sour cherry, cranberry, red flowers, dried herbs, gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and satisfying. To my palate, this is a fine classico from Serralunga d’Alba. Drink now with patience but I expect this will show better after 2029 and through 2044.

Est., in the early 1950s, producing and selling only grapes and just a few years ago Giampaolo Pira began aging and bottling its own wines. Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruit and earthy spices, 100% Nebbiolo. On the palate flavors of ripe cherry and plum with earthy pepper spice, well balanced. Fine tannins, vivid acidity, long finish ending with earthy mineral notes, drink now.

Last tried 3 years ago. Established in the early 1950s, producing and selling only grapes and just a few years ago began aging and bottling its own wines. Giampaolo Pira recently took the reins. Ruby, brown edges, with aromas of dark berry fruit and earthy spices. 100% Nebbiolo, flavors of ripe cherry and plum emerge, smooth, with pepper spice on good structure. Fine soft tannins, balanced acidity on long finish ending with earthy mineral notes, drink now.

Have had this in the cellar for five years, wanted to wait til it was a decade old.
Olives, tar, fennel, plum skin, cherries and earth. Plenty of life ahead but so good now.
Needs air and needs food. Paired with NY strip, asparagus with preserved lemon, and garlic mashed potatoes. Boozy and grippy.

Another winner from the heralded 2010 vintage, this amazing Q/P-ratio wine captures the essence of Nebbiolo. Rich, almost smokey, pretty decadent nose with crushed, white flowers complementing the tar, asphalt and red berries aromas, all nicely echoed on the accessible yet age-worthy palate. Load up the truck!

Heavenly! Brilliant, even concentration of garnet to red brick rim. Complex and intense aromatics red cherry, rose, lavender, cola, tar, tea, black pepper. Medium body, dry, tangy high acid, warming high alcohol 14.5% is well balanced and creates a smooth mouthfeel. Chalky astringency is is high but slow to arrive and well integrated and creates a harmonious structure. Black cherry, licorice, and a mouth filling rose perfume dominates the long, complex finish. Don't drink this youthful wine now! She will have a lot more finesse in 10+ years. Swoon
