Dusty blackberry and smoky prune, black cherry, black raisin, violet and dark rose aromas all coalescing into a complex, arid mix of earthy dust and cocoa powder smells, with a side of black tahini. Black currant, tart black cherries, satin tannins, vine charcoal, grill char, valerian root, burnt gingerbread, plum reduction, and a balsamic depth bordering on hoisin. Great that this one has such concentration from high elevation fruit. Dark, deep and intense at a relative value. #Hesswine #Hess #Hessfamily #Argentinewine #Argentinawine #Salta #Colomé #highelevationwine #calchaquivalley #malbec #argentinemalbec

WS Top 100 ‘17, and I can see why. Smooth, balanced, elegant. Probably the best Malbec I have tasted. Winner of Thanksgiving Eve tasting. Rating affirmed 11/30/18. Minimal decanting necessary.

Inky black, this Malbec has an unfortunate nose that reminds me of fingernail polish remover. It's probably volatile acidity, a naturally occurring flaw in the winemaking process. It's not a killer - in fact some people find that VA is intriguing, interesting. I've had wines afflicted with VA before, to a lesser degree, and found them offbeat. This one is too far gone for me to appreciate. The chemical odor is overwhelming and the displeasure seeps into the palate. It's always a disappointment to encounter a wine for which I just can't muster up any excitement. That's the case here. A shame, too, because Wine Spectator thought quite a lot of it.

Partially sourced from apparently the highest elevation vineyard in the world... so there's that... Exotic floral and bramble aromas combine with a loamy-limestone funky minerality along with some pepper and asphalt, but finishes clean.

Very earthy, bit of Brett? Maybe more than a bit? Minor manure? Followed the wrong wine, which may have hurt it

6/25/18 Good. Strong cigar box notes. Could use more time in the bottle.

A good dinner wine. But not gonna overwhelm you with flavor.
