Beaulieu Vineyard
Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
Classic Napa comfort food. After hours of heavy traffic driving into the western sun and over the bay bridge... I picked up this old friend at Safeway with dinner. A bit of vanilla, oak, cocoa powder, dark cherry, smooth tannins... and I am recovered! (Substitute Rutherford dust for the cocoa).

Nov 7th, 2019Very lovely. Time to drink but still some acid left to go with the delicate fruit. Makes me want to try the GDL PR soon.

Aug 28th, 2019Raisin, cocoa, leather and baking spices on the palette. Definitely needs time to breathe. Felt somewhat unbalanced. Lengthy finish. Wouldn’t race out to buy this one again.

Jul 15th, 2019BV grapes, first planted back in 1900, by founder Georges de Latour. A Rutherford beauty, complex aromas of fruit, spice and earth. On the palate blackberry & cherry flavors with cacao, oak and leather. Firm fine tannins, balanced, lingering ending with tons of fruit, oak and earthy mineral. Nice!

Feb 14th, 2019My previous notes are listed with a click on the photo & a short scroll. I opened this bottle four hours ago. It tasted past it’s prime from the bottle we had several weeks ago. This bottle showed lots of figs, dates, prunes & Eau de Vie Brandy/Cognac. It took four hours open in bottle to get back to my previous notes that I made nearly two months ago. Now, it’s beautiful dark, rich, beautiful Cabernet. If your well stored 87 BV Rutherford tastes over the hill upon opening, I wouldn’t decant it...that would be too much air for this bottling. I would open the bottle for an hour and let it stand. Then, pour into a glass for fifteen to twenty minutes and serve. It recovers magnificently. Deliciously perfect after nearly 30 years in the bottle. For the two of us, our last pour tastes like our previous bottle did after four hours being open in bottle. A splendid recent purchase for less than $50.

Jun 2nd, 2018This is good, but the price? I don't have a lot of experience so perhaps it's the vintage, but it's a bit thin. Tangy tannin, dried, dusty fruit, cooling minty vanilla, burnt rubber, faintest hint of cinnamon and baking spices, sweet fruit for a moment in the finish. It's fine but lacking. Simply standard, especially for the price of Groth and Beringer Knights Valley Reserve.

May 1st, 2018Gettin’ old school. Perfectly cellared by anonymous auction donor. Well balanced after all these years. Lots of color and fruit still alive.
