Clone 4 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon

Winemaker's stash.

Deep purplish ruby red. A bit of heat on the nose with dark berries. Moderate plus tannins (7.5/10) and medium plus bodied. More integrated on the palate than the Clone 6. Solid dark berries, black cherries and a little black fruits on the palate. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2028.

Blackberry, ripe plum, cedar, and so smooth yet tannic. Lighter body than I expected but drinking perfect now. Great pairing with tri-tip.

So freaking big! Very heavily extracted. I don't think this wine will age much more than 5 more years. There is plenty of fresh fruit and seductive richness, but nothing is in balance. however, it's delicious. #clone4 #beaulieuvineyard #bv #cabernetsauvignon #napavalley #rutherford

Clone 4, discovered in Mendoza, Argentina. (6 is from California, 337 is from Bordeaux) This winery experimented these clones with UC Davis. Straight forward, easy to drink but not very complex. 5 years old but still very tannic.

Big fruit, extracted, rich and velvety. Thoroughly delicious but I would struggle to drink a third glass

If you want Napa cab, I can’t imagine a better wine that fits the bill. I love Rutherford so this is perfect. Dust covered wild picked blackberries, cedar, some pine, a hint of dark chocolate on the nose. Palate is chocolate covered raspberries, more cedar, bit of green pepper, also white pepper, plums, dirt, and the tiny hint of candy orange. This opened up after an hour. Also improved tasting outside. Is this winery underrated because they make a lot of wine? Are the 500 dollar Napa bottles that much better or just status?

Still chugging and can go more - tight and the cork was solid and intact. Thank goodness I have a few more to allow to rest to see how far this vintage can go. Dark fruits and vanilla

Took some time to open ... solid. Dry, chalky , very Rutherford like

A better showing than the clone 6 from this vintage. Peppery and structured. Still too young.
