Sator Tintilia del Molise
This freak show of a wine I have a soft spot for. Pure Tintillia from Molise. The nose is just crazy. Nuts, anise, blackberry syrup and fresh blackberries. So much to the aromas. They are so present. Not wispy. Mean, evil aromas. But you cannot look away. Pasolini liquified. Rich but fresh and has so much energy. Velvety tannins that gain substance with air. Chewy and dense but also somewhat light on its feet. Long finish and very fresh. Really intense. But also elegant. A wine of contrasts. Let’s see what air does. But a great wine despite my meandering review.

Jan 31st, 2024Nothing like this freakish wine. Nose is so in your face with spice, dried nut shells, minerals, prune juice, something primal and meaty. This is so interesting for being so in your face. Not a subtle wine but it does have restraint. Palate is mega rich and super concentrated with awesome freshness and just such thick dense fruit and showing a little heat.

Nov 10th, 2021Covered by intrigued aromas of black/dried fruit, backing spices, savory dried herbs with hints of smokiness.

Jan 1st, 2020Just crazy. Tintilia FTW. Huge spices. Insane spices. Complex nuts. Licorice. Plum, blackberry and just such an intense nose. Remarkable nose. Palate is juicy and thick but also fresh and acidic. Interesting contrast. Balanced and ripe but also lean and mineral. A prickle Of Heat takes away a tiny bit.

Jun 4th, 2019Drinking this in Molise right now with our sommelier Carlo Pagano. Dark ruby color with orange edge. Very complex noose, intense sensation of black pepper, black fruit and prune. Carob. Coffee. Structure. Density. Soft Tannin. Subtle layer of cloves and nutmeg. Orange skin aromas. Sweet tobacco aroma, too. Delicious.

2 people found it helpfulApr 5th, 2016Lovely wine. Black cherry, black raspberry, and has a nose like an aged Primitivio. A bit of heat is noticeable and the wine is light on the attack with an acidic kick and then dense and almost cloying plum note on the midpalate. Long finish but the tannins are a little drying and dense and sneak up on you. An interesting and rare indigenous grape from a region not known for much.

The color is ruby red, with red fruits scents, like wild blackberry, sour cherry and plums. Warm and rich in the mouth, with alcohol and tannins, but quite well balanced.

Why Molise doesn’t get more recognition is beyond me.
