Big captivating aromas of roast beef with horse sweat and saddle nose. Spice and iron compounds the palate. I was concerned it might be past it’s prime at age 26 but fine structure and black cherry fruit is still at the fore. That said, time to drink up.

Other commenters may not have prepared themselves for the sheer tannic power of sagrantino, even with only 15% in this blend. Pours a deep brick red veering toward brown, showing significant aging. But ready to drink, probably at its peak. Still, needs time to breathe. Strong saddle leather and horsetail (the plant) aromas backed by roasted game and a bouquet of spices that reminds me of a chocolate-heavy mole.

Even after a few years of bottle age this is very tannic. And this blend only has smaller part Segrantino! Would benefit from more cellering, for sure. It’s rough but feels very well made.

Mar 18th, 2025This turned out to be an amazing wine after 15 years. Depth, intensity, structured and a terrific balance between tertiary nuances and still fresh darker fruits. 👏

A blend of Sangiovese and Sagrentino. Tanins are vivid, needs more time to soften. Full body, dark in color.

Jul 6th, 2024Nose of potting soil
Black berry, nail polish remover, pepper, dark chocolate shavings, bell pepper, forest leaves, blueberry.
Palate: dense and upfront big with tannin grip. Sediment pretty heavy. I let it open, tasting over a few hours hoping it would blossom. Fresh more than dried out fruits. It's not rounded out. Just fractured with everything sticking out by itself. Short finish. I wanted to love this... 2006 drank in 2020

A nice example of Montefalco. Sturdy, high tannins, acidic, but stays balanced. Albeit in an ”aggressive” manner. Stone fruit. Plus wood? Or some herbs?

Feb 25th, 2020Sangiovese took me for a trip! Breathing room allowed the complexities to shine. Big! Relatively smooth, easy on the nose from beginning to end.
