Solengo: Popped and poured into red Solo cups; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2001 pours a garnet/purple with an opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of cassis, black berries, black cherry, dried purple flowers, capsicum, pencil shavings, some fine, cool and warm spices and dry, gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Squarely in the zone and while this a traditional Bordeaux-style blend, it somehow has a touch of Italian vibes. Drink now through 2036.

Blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Petit Verdot, 20% Merlot and 5% Sangiovese for this Supertuscan, aged for 18 months in French oak. Deep Ruby color with aromas of rich berry fruits and spice. On the palate cherry, plum & raspberry flavors, with leather, cacao, spice, herbs and tobacco notes. Lively acidity, fine chewy tannins, medium+ finish ending with spicy mineral and earthy oak. Nice!

Showing very well. Plum, orange zest, panforte and some coffee. A bit thick waisted. Still, good length and structure. Prototype super Tuscan.

Incredibly smooth tannins, yet with an edge so you know there is plenty of aging potential. Blackberry, vanilla, black pepper, amazing balance, a lovely treat!
