Chateau Musar 2004 Bekaa Valley Rouge (SRP $53): Pale-medium garnet in color, this medium-bodied wine leads with tart red berry fruit, dried cranberries and earthy flavors framed by notes of worn leather, sweet tobacco leaf, forest floor, dried flowers, and fennel seed. It opens nicely over time and ends with more earthy/funky qualities than the red fruit you catch up-front. Well-balanced, a generous underpinning of fresh acidity supports a sleek yet age-worthy frame. There is this savory complexity combined with pretty aspects and a funky core that I like in this wine.

@AddendumWinebyFess is a new wine project by Santa Barbara winery Fess Parker specializing in ultra-premium, small-lot wines from select Napa Valley sites. This bottling represents 1 of 4; all from the 2014 vintage; all 100% Cab, save for one Cab/Syrah blend from Atlas Peak. The Addendum 2014 from Rutherford is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is deep, concentrated, and richly fruited, with excellent acid/tannin balance. There are leading flavors of black plum, currant, and spice cake, followed by dark cocoa and mocha notes. A good dose of oak (matured 28 months in 100% new French oak barrels) was thrown at this wine but the ripe, concentrated fruit handles it superbly well. This Cab is built to age but very enjoyable now. I recommend decanting for about one hour. Earlier today we hiked 5 miles on some gorgeous mtn trails - it literally took my breath away.  And right about now I am feelin the burn immensely, and I luvvvv it. It's Friday and it's fun, but something is missing....ah yes, Heidi Barrett and her elegant Revana Cab. I have appreciated her work for a while (Dalla Valle, Amuse Bouche, Screaming Eagle, should I keep going?) - and who doesn't respect someone who always tries their best to make it perfect (with 5 100pt wines to her name, ridiculous). This 2005 is drinking really nicely right now - a total fruitbomb. Lots of vanilla and cherry flavor. Sidenote: I have heard great things about later vintages too since TRB subsequently took over. #happyfriday #heidibarrett — 8 years ago
