Magnum. Decanted and then put back into a clean bottle. Super tight and smokey at first but opened up very well. Perfect with lamb. #chateaulafite #firstgrowthbordeaux — 10 years ago

Decanted and opened beautifully over 2 hrs. Initial nose was perfumed but overwhelmed by new oak. Palate was tight and ripe. After opening up the new oak mostly blew off showing incredible complexity dominated by ripe black, red, and some blue fruit, along with mounds of flowers, truffle, smoke, graphite, and earth. The palate was full but perfectly balanced. Great complexity and concentration. The structure was still very sturdy with silky tannins and taught acid. The length was tremendously long. This was in great shape and will only continue to get better. #chateaulafite #pauillac #bordeaux #premiergrandcru #firstgrowth #cabernetsauvignon #ctbucklinwine — 8 years ago

A good bet that was in it's prime drinking window?

@David Trumper in my opinion, it was just entering the prime drinking window. It still felt on the young side to me and contained the great structure, fruit, and balance to drink well for a long time.

Beautiful light ruby color fading towards the rim. Med + complexity and intensity on the nose with wound up but dry black fruit with little sweetness. Bordeaux characteristics.
Palate was smooth and a touch watery with a med finish. The structure was very strong with firm tannins and acid. The wine was still compact and I got the feeling that it's going through an awkward stage and needs some more time.
