Château Gruaud Larose

Sarget de Gruaud Larose Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Popped. Notes from Day 3 open (unrefrigerated on the counter overnight). In a lovely place. Soft smokey cedar, blackberry, a hint of vanilla, earth. On the palate: lovely acidity, good density, more blackberry, blueberry, a touch of vegetal green, soft earth and lovely tang on the finish, which shows a dusting of tannin. Yum. — 2 years ago

Domaine Durieu

Lucile Avril Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2017

This wine is terrific. Made from 90-year-old vine grenache (85%), 60-year-old Mourvèdre (10%) and 5% Syrah. The wine was aged in concrete 18 months with only the syrah seeing oak. It is juicy with notes of bright strawberry, raspberry, red currant. Blackberry, spiced red cherries, and an subtle hint of herbal garrigue in the background with leather, kirsch and clove. Much more elegant than you might assume on learning it has 15.5% alcohol. A beautiful wine with surprisingly bright acidity - very long on the palate. — 2 years ago

Dueling Pistols

Dual Varietal Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel Syrah 2016

9.1

The nose is deep and opulent with blueberry jam, black cherry, nutmeg, black pepper, vanilla, and hint of cured meat. On the palate it’s rich , thick, yet silky smooth like melted chocolate, with touch of dried herbs. Ripe integrated tannins.
Very delicious blend.

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 1996

POV: you’ve been asking your dad for 15 years when we can drink this wine and he finally opens it to celebrate your wedding weekend. Golden hue. Lemon, bruised apple, brioche. Soft moussey bubbles, dry and velvety on the tongue. Absolutely AMAZING to drink. — 2 years ago

Bogle Vineyards

Essential Red Old Vine California Red Blend 2018

NL
9.5

Bogle never disappoints. IMO it is one of the best value and underrated wines. This petit sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel wine blend is a well balanced and delicate fruit bomb. This 2018 vintage has vanilla, cacao, and French oak notes that dance around the palate to finish off with ripe strawberries, cherry, and tobacco undertones. Will easily hold up to wines three times the price. — 2 years ago
