I wanted to pick a really good wine for this milestone but I happened to have this one in my wine fridge and it meets the criteria I wanted for this post. 🍾 This Hungarian 🇭🇺 sparkling wine is a gem, not to mention it’s absolutely delicious.  👏👏👏 We’ve had it once before and had to return to Thomas Liquors to pick up more. 💕💕

📝 It is comprised of 70% Furmint and 30% Hárslevelu, two widely-planted indigenous varieties in Hungary, and was made using the traditional method, i.e., the same method used in Champagne, which notably involves a second fermentation in the bottle followed by twelve months aging “sur lie,” riddling, and disgorgement.  🤓

It comes from the Henye vineyard in the Tokaj region of Hungary, near the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains. 🏔

Tokaji wines are best known for being lusciously sweet and presented in 50CL bottles, but here is an excellent example of dry, brut sparking Tokaji wine that has vibrant acidity and ripe orchard fruit notes, such as desiccated, yellow apple, pear, and apricot; also citrus blossom and lavender notes along with a rich creaminess and toasty, brioche, yeasty elements, evidence of the sur-lie aging. 👍👍👍

We’ve delightfully paired this wine with homemade Maryland-style crab cakes 🦀 over a bed of arugula salad tossed with champagne vinaigrette.

Beautifully full bouquet. A daily man's Super Tuscan. A melange of perfume - fruity, sweet, savoury, old leather, oak. Chewy. Brilliant complexity on the palate represented by it's nose. Raisin, peppercorn, graphite, leaves.Much patience needed for this. — 3 years ago

Leggy. Deep ruby color. Dark cherry, vanilla, currant, and maybe plum on the nose. Leads with lots of medium to dark fruit, then balances with medium tannin at the finish. Really lovely; and this wine is begging for a spicy meat. Note: The more air you give it, the deeper/more complex the fruit. Give it 45 minutes before your first pour. — 3 years ago

Love, love this Rosé having a hard time finding more! Balance between fruits, acidity and minerals..exceptional as always!
Gorgeous orange in color! Great Med+body..great salinity.
Delicious nectarine, white peach, watermelon, strawberries, cotton candy, chalk dust, Raneir cherries, honeydew, white flowers...anyway a wine that everytime you smell and taste; something new stands proud! — 3 years ago

A fantastic nose. Deep blackberry, dark cherry, plum, mint, leather, blood and a touch of vanilla oak. On the palate this is velvety, intense, beautifully poised. Great fruit with lovely balance and real length. Exceptional. Vintages 90,94,96. — 3 years ago
