Think Pink: Italy’s Lively 2018 Rosatos

Spring is here and summer is around the corner, so we all know what that means...It's rosé season! Vinous critic, Ian D'Agata discusses the wine known for pairing perfectly with warmer weather and sunny days in his article, Think Pink: Italy’s Lively 2018 Rosatos. Check out this excerpt and enjoy the handful of notes we've gathered from Ian and the Delectable community! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Two thousand eighteen was generally cool and rainy, the polar opposite of the hot, dry 2017 growing season. Not surprisingly, the 2018 Rosatos are characterized by sleek frames and less flesh (but lower alcohol levels, too) than the wines of 2017. The less successful 2018s (especially from the north of Italy) are marred by green streaks and unripe aromas and flavors. The best are perfumed and graceful, and good examples, although there are no real blockbusters. I especially liked the Rosatos from Etna, as well as some of the Nebbiolo-based wines, but there are many lovely Chiarettos, Puglian Rosatos and Cerasuolo d’Abruzzos to choose from as well." -- Ian D'Agata, Vinous, Think Pink: Italy’s Lively 2018 Rosatos , May 2019

Rocca di Montegrossi

Toscana IGT Sangiovese Rosato 2018

Delectable Wine

Medium pale pink. Floral strawberry, herbs and violets on the inviting nose. Then a slightly candied quality and a hint of residual sweetness diminish the vibrancy of the floral and juicy red berry flavors but contribute to a smooth, round mouthfeel. The finish is long and very precise, with obvious mineral elements emerging. 100% Sangiovese. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, May 2019) — 5 years ago

Rusin Colline Novaresi Nebbiolo Rosé 2017

Well. This... this is something. Truffle and cherry, do I get plum? That's on the nose and it only gets nicer from there. Raspberry comes spilling out with this. Good acid, great balance. Lingers and lingers. Knocking my socks off. — 6 years ago

Le Pianelle

Al Posto Dei Fiori Coste della Sesia Rosato 2018

Delectable Wine

Vivid pink. Aromas of red fruits, licorice and white flowers. Then big, rich, dense and spicy with slightly sweet flavors of pomegranate and watermelon. Finishes very juicy and long; this is still young and will age well. A blend of Nebbiolo, Vespolina and Croatina. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, May 2019) — 5 years ago

Masseria Li Veli

Salento Susumaniello 2016

Palmer Emmitt

Reminiscent to me of Priorat crossed with Montalcino, this wine has tea, licorice, rhubarb and berry aromas with tons of candied cherry flavor on the palate and a nice leathery tannic grip. — 6 years ago

Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo 2018

Delectable Wine

Luminous pink-red. Bright aromas of red cherry, redcurrant, blood orange and botanical herbs. Then bright and juicy, with laser-like acidity lifting and extending the red fruit flavors on the juicy, long, floral and slightly saline finish. A very precise, seamless Cerasuolo with no hard edges and sneaky concentration. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, May 2019) — 5 years ago
