Alessandro Masnaghetti's Barolo, MGA Vol. II

A stunning work of historic significance, Alessandro Masnaghetti’s forthcoming book Barolo MGA Vol. II includes never seen before research on the evolution of the appellation, harvest dates, the Barolo 1970 map that compares vineyard areas of present day to those of 1970, a case study of Vigna Rionda, and the first English translation of Ferdinando Vignolo-Lutati’s groundbreaking 1929 essay On the Delimitation of Wine Zones and Typical Wines. Barolo MGA Vol. II; Vintages, Recent History, Rarities & Much More is available in the United States through the Rare Wine Co. and through Enogea for readers outside the United States.

This was terrific. Old school earthy maybe a tinge of brett to go along with the berries and rose petals. “Balanced” and “elegant.” — 6 years ago

1989. Not even out of high school yet... beautiful savory character- obvious leather, sweet red fruit, tar, tea.... quite palatable. Almost there.... wait for it — 7 years ago

Vigna Marenca Barolo Nebbiolo 2008

2008- excellent barolo, best on day 2 of 3, slight oak creaminess but very pure cherries rose and limestone grip, red licorice as well. Suave, broad and silky in mouth, plenty of tannic grip and vibrant acidity ---should age with grace! — 9 years ago

Just wow! I need a case of this. Very pretty nose and sooo smooth. This is what I love in a Barolo. If you like finesse then this is for you! SS — 6 years ago

Barolo Nebbiolo 2013

Popped and poured...sooooo young but it’s already showing great potential. Fresh, bright red and dark fruit, roses and minerals. Classic Barolo. Surprisingly enjoyable to drink now but it’s pretty obvious that these will be at their best down the road a ways. — 6 years ago

Tight and dominated by VA at the beginning. Blossomed with time in the glass. Tart cherries emerged. White pepper and minerality. Tannins integrated with time. — 6 years ago

Bricco Fiasco Barolo Nebbiolo 2011

Layers of toasty oak, tobacco, cassis. Tannins are initially confronting but start to soften and flesh out after 20minutes in the glass. Beautiful wine, many more years of life yet. — 9 years ago
