2015. Sangiovese. Torn here: clearly well-made and concentrated but dark fruit is still so muted even after 4-5 hours of air. Some oak definitely masking the fruit but such dark, dry flavors - could use some more acid/tartness to liven it up (like its more vibrant sister wine Fontalloro). Maybe time balances it out, but I’ll be on to other (warm) years by then. $43.

Obviously a serious wine, but the mineral structure is lagging the tannic and acid structure. Has subtle authentic Sangiovese perfume, unusually dark color and the heft. It does not have an unique character that distinguishes exceptional wines from mere excellent ones.

Dark, tart cherries, some exotic spice, earthy undertones and some leather. There’s a fresh herby note, too. This is quite complex, with great purity of fruit, and very, very good.

Dark plum, roasted herbs, cherries and rose petals. In its class there are few peers. It’s young but still delicious. Save for 2025!
