Grandes Dames tasting 2/1/23. My 3rd, group 1st. Cherries, hints of flowers. Herbal, not fruity. Grippy.

Wine Spectator #7 Wine of the Year 2010. Scents of raspberries and blueberries intertwined with briar patch spices. Ripe raspberry and blueberry flavors persist. A hint of creamy oak and a silky and refined texture with a juicy character. Juicy acidity and integrated tannins smooth the finish.

That stewed character I get with Zinfandel right there, preserve blackberry and plum, whisky lactobes and char. High alcohol.

Balance + fun = delicious, food friendly wine! Best Zin I’ve had in a while!

Who says Zin isn’t age-worthy? 2004 drinking like a dream in 2018 on a casual home made pizza night in the mountains. Sweet berry fruit singing the high notes with baking spices dropping the bass. The well balanced acid helps the 15.3% alcohol delay its announcement until very late on the long gorgeous finish.

Red cherry and raspberry jam. Nutmeg. M acid and body. M+ tannin. Jammy, spice. Very fruit forward. Needs a pizza to pair with it. Lovely.
