Drinking beautifully! Earthy, mushroomy, macerated plums, spice, warm sandstoney notes. Rich and fully resolved. Tannins in check and a clingy, lengthy, rich and savory finish. My brother gave me this many years ago, so thanks are in order!

Wonderfully complex wine, still very tart after 8 years but starting to show some layers. Cranberry, dried prune, sage and an intense, but fleeting, note of concentrated blueberry.

Vintage 2012 / Ha, in a blind tasting I thought this was a Brunello. 🤨 it does not have that typical stubborness of #sagrantino that I like do much. Brown rim, shy smell with cedar, noble. So much refinement. It may be a bit atypical for #umbria but who cares?

Over the course of a few hours, this wine has transformed from a pillar of austerity to a thing of beauty. A riper expression of Sagrantino, the delicacy of flavors - dried rose petal and lavender - prove a fascinating juxtaposition to the firm backbone of tannin that grows chalkier and more brittle with time in the glass. Kirsch, graphite, and rosemary.

Big high-toned (not quite VA) nose with lots of deep dark fruits, on the palate slightly overripe to my taste and exhibiting a potpourri of fruits à la Zinfandel. New oak influence is profound. I want my Sagrantino back.
