I’m not certain why I went for this, but I did. Probably too eager because 2018 here is still way too young. Translucent red cherry color, pale around the edges. Dried rose petals, cherries, and leather compromise the nose. Quite rigid inside with some wood elements and vanilla. Tight and not ready.

Strong and long. Elegant. The age helps.

Dark brick color, clear; dark dried cherries, plums, some strawberries, honeysuckle, potpourrie of dried red flowers, hints of oak; dry on the palate, not very tannic at all, and quite lame on the midpalate, chestburning finish without the flair and elegance one would expect from this region and vintage.

Sweeter version of Barolo, with structure and acidity not apparent on soft opening but kicks in mid sip and drags out flavors through the long finish. Cherries, tobacco leaf.

A new Italian wine to me, courtesy of @Mark Flesher opening this alongside his ‘16 Kistler Hudson. I tend to enjoy my Italian wines with bigger fruit and this one was pretty close to hitting that. Still has classic notes of tar, rose petal and bing cherries, but the fruit has shed its harsh tartness of its youth with age and is channeling some darker mulled traits. Mark mentioned cola as a note when we were tasting this and I think that was one of the main notes that stood out here.
