Great year. Opened in 9-14. Need to allow it to breath for about 30 mins. Very subtle, little peppery, lots of cherry and plum flavor. — 10 years ago
The Bedrock Vineyard in Sonoma Valley was originally planted in 1854 by Civil War generals William “Tecumseh” Sherman and “Fightin” Joe Hooker (from left). It would be passed on to George Washington Whitman (Walt Whitman's younger brother) and then to the former American Consul to China Eli T. Shepherd (no pic), before being purchased by Senator George Hearst in 1888. He planted most of the vines that exist today, which were some of the first to be planted on American rootstock. #merica — 8 years ago

First to rate this wine. Received when staying at the Marcus Whitman hotel. Merlot dominant blend, with Cab, Cab Franc and Petite Verdot. Made by L'Ecole. Fruit forward and enjoyable table wine. A good reminder of a great trip. — 7 years ago
Frederick Corkrum played football for Whitman College in Walla Walla where he graduated in 1921. And apparently Whitman was the last undefeated college basketball team this year until their loss a few hours ago in the DIII Final Four. So there's that...
As for the wine, it's 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot, and 4% Malbec. Opens with a rustic nose of leather, cigar box, cinder block, dry earth, and cocoa powder, with muted cherry ever-present, but in the background. The Cab Franc really comes though on the palate, showing an herbaceous, grilled pepper edge. A classically styled representation of Bordeaux, but slender by comparison for Walla Walla. — 8 years ago
