The color on this South African blend of Merlot, Cab Sauv and Cab Franc is a deep plum. On the nose is dark fruit, plum, black raspberries. On the palate is black raspberry, unripe plum, cassis, sandy tannins and a vegetal note. Not bad for a South African Bordeaux blend. — 7 years ago

A close friend recommended I try this Chardonnay from South Africa a producer who he knew from years ago when he lived in South Africa. I opened the bottle and the aromas were wonderful. The first notes were of Grapefruit, and Banana. After swirling a minute or so more fruit came wafting out. I got Orange, pineapple and melon. On the palate was very expressive. The fruit kept coming, Apple, Pear, lemon curd, banana, crisp fresh good sharp acidity, more citrus notes and minerality. I was glad to try this wine and I look forward to reporting back to my friend that this Chardonnay is a winner. — 7 years ago

Twelfth wine at the Friday Auction Tasting for the Cape Winemakers Guild and the first red wine. This is made up of 100% Pinot Noir by Jan Coetzee from Stellenbosch. Aged for a total of twelve months prior to bottling. Only 47 cases produced with 36 being auctioned in 2018. Sadly this was Jan's last year as a member of the Guild as he has decided to retire.
Light to medium mix of garnet and ruby red in appearance. A touch stinky on the attack of the nose with some animal nuances, followed up by purple flowers and cherries. Medium plus acidity (7/10) and light plus to medium bodied. Layered palate with black cherries, leather, spices, touch of earth and some darker characteristics in the long finish. Drink till 2026.
$$$ - Tasted at the Cape Winemakers Auction and only sold as magnums. Average bid at auction was R4,565.00 ($107.39 a magnum) a case. Highest bid was R6,600.00 ($155.27 a magnum) and lowest bid was R3,600.00 ($84.69 a magnum).
