Domaine Pascal Cotat

La Grande Côte Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc

Kimmeridgian soil yes, Chardonnay no, Chablis no. Full chalk Sauvignon Blanc from the top producer in Sancerre. It is a thing of beauty. Pear, peach and citrus tastes finishing bone dry. This wine is a beauty and will age very well. Only to be surpassed by “les monts damnees” from the same producer. For those of you thinking that Sancerre is a simple glass of wine to be drunk as an apero or with some seafood., get a bottle of this and be blown away. Guess what, it is even affordable but already relatively rare. — 4 days ago

MontGras

Reserva Leyda Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2013

Color of egg white, quite pale. Nose is pretty good with ample amount of ripe fruits, like pineapple, tangerine, mixed with spice, mineral, and salty mineral. Sweet yet quite refined. Taste shows plenty of acidity, Sprite, spice, salty mineral, just a tiny bit watery. Aftertaste is a bit short with some more peppery flavor. Considering the price, totally a bargain. — 6 days ago

Excellent. World class Sauvignon blanc.. Leesy character with ripe fruit and yet still brilliantly focused. Reminds me of great Sancerre meets Bordeaux blanc. Crystalline mouthfeel with gooseberry, raspberry and citrus. Clean as can be — 6 days ago

Hourglass

Estate Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Finally getting around to posting wines from my annual Napa trip from two weeks ago. Always goes by quick! Lots of fun new stops this year.

We returned to Hourglass after our visit in 2018 as the wines are just so enjoyable, but the tasting cave may be one of the coolest spots to enjoy a glass of wine.

I’ve had many vintages (and bottles) of this and it’s always consistent. In an age of “super SauvBlancs”, this toes the line between old school and new school. Lots of grass, little bit of grapefruit, lemon lime candy and minerality in the nose. It gives way to more lemon on the palate, waffling back and forth between oak or steel with high acidity and a slightly rounded profile on the finish. I like this SB a touch warmer than others as the acidity can be razor sharp when it’s cold. Great for the price.

@Paul T- Huntington Beach : This hasn’t been officially released yet, but I think it releases next month. If you’ve enjoyed their SB before, it’s as expected and consistent.

Grgich Hills Estate

Napa Valley Fumé Blanc (Dry Sauvignon Blanc) 2016

Had this in a restaurant with some Sushi. Pale lemon with complex aromas of fresh citrus with herbal mineral notes. Orange & citrus flavors adding grapefruit & lemon tones, great acidity balance, rich & smooth, medium finish ending with grassy savory mineral character. Nice! — 5 days ago

Theorem Vineyards

Moon Mountain District Sauvignon Blanc 2018

@Delectable Wine : This is Theorem’s Moon Mountain District chardonnay. I didn’t see it in the database.

Finally getting around to posting wines from my annual Napa trip from two weeks ago. Always goes by quick! Lots of fun new stops this year.

Theorem was one of our highlights last year, so we made sure a return visit was lined up this year. Base of Diamond Mtn with one of the most beautiful properties I’ve seen. Over the last 12 months, they’ve added a couple new wines (with more to come from Moon Mountain). TRB is the winemaker.

Another new wine to the lineup is the moon Mountain Chardonnay. When comparing to other chardonnays TRB crafts, this site is pulling in more slate/limestone and high acidity, compared to his Sonoma chardonnays that have a lot of oyster shell and tart stone fruits. Very bright and concentrated. Underripe melon, powdered lemon bar, crushed rocks, honeysuckle and wildflowers all reveal themselves. I’d hold this for a few years.

Carneros Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Impressive for its verve and vitality. This arrests your senses with sherbet and melon on the nose, which transitions to a zippy, almost nervy palate. Bright as a button with high-pitched acidity. Stunning as a result of its laser-focus. At the price, it’s a MUST try in our minds.
If you travel to Napa, they have great gardens, and art exhibits to enjoy while you sip.
