Château Gazin

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1985

AMAZING BORDEAUX that’s still able to shine, decanted, after a few hours of opening! In ritual notes of damp leather, subdued / dried fruits and felt past its prime. 2 hours later - completely blossomed into this robust, aged, beautiful almost “fruit forward” masterpiece with almost olive overtones. I’m sure it was a great bottle 10, 20, even 30 years ago - but now it’s almost better as it’s transformed into this subtle, wonderful wine which was able to hold its own against aged cheese and roasted beef. A true treasure I’m glad we uncorked!! (BTW - cork was LONG - get your longest screw out for this one)!!! — 2 years ago

Morlet Family Vineyards

Mon Chevalier Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

This is my Hurricane Harvey wine. After being housebound by flooding for 6 days I decided to open this gem from Morlet which shows all the classic Knight's Valley character I love. It is a treasure of cassis, black currants, incense and sandalwood, tar and menthol. Black pepper and spice box. The palate is a layered as is the nose, with a succulentdark fruit core framed with understated, fine,, mouthcoating tannins. 15.0% alcohol — 7 years ago

Domaine Maume

Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2010

Gorgeous, flinty nose with hint of barnyard. Grippy tannins. Hint of coffee and soy sauce after 3 hours. Almost Valentini Cerasuolo-ish. Imperial Treasure Teochew Ion with Andrew Dutton.

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. There I was suggesting that Maume's Mazis-Chambertin 2011 was clearly not the pick from the domaine this vintage and lo and behold, it trumps all in a blind tasting. It has quite an earthy note on the nose with mint-tinged red fruit and black plum unfurling at its own leisurely pace in the glass. Later, this is joined by fennel and rosemary scents, creating an intriguing aromatics profile. The palate is medium-bodied, a touch foursquare on the entry, but with good substance, the texture grainy and quite peppery toward the finish. There is a lot going on in this grand cru and it will be fascinating to see how it develops and if it maintains this stellar quality. RP95, 2011, issued Nov 2014

3 Finger Wine Company

Treasure Hunter Chloe's Sone Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Someone needs to correct the name on this app and I can’t ever get anyone to respond, but...this Cab was fantastic and got better after being opened for an hour or two. Dark fruit and good tannins. — 4 years ago

Delord

25 Ans d'Age Bas Armagnac

What a delicious Bas-Armagnac. Rich with vanilla and caramel notes all in abundance. But what makes this such a delightful spirit is its intensity, smoothness and the finish that lasts several minutes. Twenty five years aged, and some, this Bas-Armagnac was a little treasure that I picked up at a store that was, sadly, closing. I'm glad I did. — 7 years ago

Produttori del Barbaresco

Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2017

2022/10. If it’s even possible, my appreciation for Produttori grows every year. This is a lovely, textbook traditional Barbaresco with a extra layer of lush fruit. Considering how prices are going in the Langhe, this is a treasure. — 2 years ago

Abrente

Napa Valley Albariño 2013

Another hidden treasure...I know we should have popped it earlier... but this joint venture between Morgan Twain-Peterson from Bedrock and Michael Havens (first producer of New World Albariño) is still alive. Medium gold/yellow in the glass... perhaps not quite as vibrant acid-wise as at release, but very powerful and pleasant. Slightly waxy and round, sporting a bit of funk, but notes of unripe pear, green apple, and green papaya bring a smile. I don’t think this wine is currently made, but I always thought it a real QPR bargain. — 4 years ago
