Another surprising find on the shelves of our local grocery store! The Retsu is a limited bottling by Toko brewery, where their "basic" karakuchi (dry) junmai daiginjo gets aged in ice-cold temperatures for a year. An excellent subject of difference when drank with the Kuheiji Eau Du Desir (both Yamadanishiki too). While the Kuheiji dances on the palate with its untamed liveliness, the Toko glides confidently with density and texture. The flavours aren't as diverse (also less bitter and sweet), but there's an intriguing sweet and nutty flavor that reminds me of Swiss cheese, enveloping the melon and herb notes. Finishes crisp, dry, and weighty. Positively delicious, and in no way inferior to the Kuheiji for me. — 4 years ago

16 years old and still there. Worthless cork as always with this wine; had to put it through a coffee filter. Spices on te nose, dustiness, modest ripe fruits. Good acidity ont the Palate of Stewed red fruits, creamy Lindt chocolate and again spices, like walking into and Indonesian toko. Very nice — 3 years ago

Rising sun JUNMAI GINGO great with salty - — 4 years ago
Inky. All the hallmarks of Argentina Malbec jumped out initially with plum, black berry, and vanilla on the nose. Then came the hints of herbs, chocolate, currant. On the palate it feels rich and polished with notes of green pepper and fig. Lingering spicy and sweet finish. 78% Malbec and 22% Cab co-fermented. — 9 years ago
