Spicy on the nose, very pleasant to drink. — 8 years ago
100+ year old vines from the foot of Château de Quéribus, the last Cathar stronghold, and probably the most epic looking castle ever (seriously, look at it, google images...). Jeb Dunnuck scored less than ten 2013 Chateauneuf du Papes higher than this, and for good reason. This is what I imagine strawberry shortcake would taste like if you were some how able to commission Pierre Hermé to pull one together on-the-fly for you. Hedonistic and raw, but with rounded edges. Just as you think you've wrapped your head around it, it turns a corner and unveils something new. True to Roussillon, hedonistic, honest, better than any Cotes du Rhone I've ever tasted, and at less than $20, it's simply one of greatest values possible in all wine. — 9 years ago

Angeleno Wine Company – Old-Vine Zinfandel, Süss Vineyard 2019
Clement Hills AVA, Lodi, California – USA 🇺🇸
Overview
This Zinfandel hails from organically farmed, century-old vines in Lodi’s Clement Hills AVA, a historic stronghold for California Zin. Angeleno keeps their natural winemaking philosophy at the forefront, allowing the terroir and vine age to speak with depth and authenticity.
Aromas & Flavors
Bold blackberry, boysenberry, and dried cranberry dominate the nose, wrapped in baking spice, clove, and a touch of smoke. On the palate, the fruit richness carries through with black plum, dark cherry, and mocha notes, lifted by savory spice and a faint earthy minerality.
Mouthfeel
Velvety, lush, and generous, with polished tannins and a structure that balances fruit power with elegance. A long, spice-laden finish rounds it off.
Winemaking Notes
• Vine age: ~100 years old, organically farmed.
• Fermentation: 100% whole-cluster, maximizing texture and aromatic lift.
• Aging: ~32 months in oak barrels.
• Bottled unfined and unfiltered, staying true to minimal-intervention style.
Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, lamb chops, or smoky BBQ. Also shines with aged cheeses like Manchego or cheddar.
Verdict
A deep, terroir-driven Zinfandel with character, structure, and generosity. Proof that old-vine Zin can be both bold and refined.
Personal Pick Highlight
The 2019 vintage shows why this vineyard is special—ultra-limited, rooted in heritage, and expressive of place. A bottle that always sparks conversation at the table.

It's been a long time since I have had an American Syrah that tasted like the Rhone Valley. Great nose with a hint of old world tomato and bbq tastes. FROM arizona!!!! Sharing at Arizona Stronhold tasting room in Cottonwood. With Aly and wife — 7 years ago
Brilliant purple red in color. Red raspberry gummies, floral and mango notes in nose. Gamay like flavors - tutti frutti, cherry and butter - but actually a blend of Syrah, Grenache and Petit Sirah. Light, fruit forward. 79/13/6/2 blend of Malvasia Bianca, Muscat, Viognier and Riesling. Pale white in color, sparkling clarity. Floral notes in nose, almost dry, peach, nectarine, spice and lemon flavors in finish. Fairly crisp, match with food or just sip. Slight mineral and astringency in aftertaste. Respectably tasty — 5 years ago

Intriguing wine, unsure whether it was just poorly stored our if the oxidative style was intended. Reminiscent of old Bordeaux, despite its lack of Semillon. — 11 years ago

"Odedi"
Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Fruity nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, light oak, tobacco leaf, herbs, peppercorn and chocolates.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.
Very dry on the palate with blueberries, black plums, cherries, spices, light oak, licorice, dark chocolates, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs and peppercorn.
Spicy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a tasty and easy drinking GSM blend from Arizona. Tangy and spicy. Nicely balanced and feels like a California Grenache blend.
Needed 30 minutes to open up and bring out the pretty nose, showing more red fruits as it opens up.
At this point, the Grenache and Mourvedre are more prominent than the Syrah. I really loved the nose here.
Would be nice to revisit it in a couple of years and see how it evolves.
Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. I paired it with a cheese board.
Grapes are grown at high elevation. A blend of 54% Syrah, 29% Mourvedre and 17% Grenache. Aged in (15% new) oak barrels for 15 months. A small production of less than 5,500 bottles.
89 points.
13.8% alcohol by volume.
