Hartwell Vineyards

Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon 1991

Picked up a couple of these from a local cellar sale at a crazy cheap price and have been happy with each one.

Classically older SLD Cabernet. The fruit spectrum is on the red and black side (as I expect from SLD) with a mocha/cocoa layered sweetness. Some older fig, sweet pipe tobacco, and a core of fruit still in-tact. Soft on the mid-palate but retaining nice structure throughout the finish. Exactly what I expected from 34yr old Napa Cabernet.

Hope to try the Realm X Hartwell wine to see the vision from where this was to what the profile goal is in the future.

Napa Valley Chardonnay 2021

Medium lemon color with aromas of stone fruit, floral, spice and citrus. On the palate apple, melon and peach flavors, with lemon zest, vanilla and toasty notes. Nice balance with bright acidity on long creamy finish, savory with spicy rich oaky mineral ending, very nice! — a month ago

Really looked forward to this one, but a little bit too rich to warrant higher score. Missing the acidity/tension a bit.
Edit: and it was served too warm..

One Point Five Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

2022 vintage. Sampled via Coravin. A bit more fruit than the 2021 vintage sampled just prior. Still...über-pleasant and giving now. Cellar it. PNP it tonight. Somewhere in between...doesn't really matter as you'll be more than satisfied regardless of your decision. 03.19.25. — 2 months ago

What fun. This wine trounced a much more expensive Bordeaux this evening. Drinking perfectly and fully displayed its boysenberry, chocolate and Asian spice notes. Drink now or whenever it seems well in hand for another decade. — 19 days ago

The old Stelzner property which was always the leanest SLD cab property. In my experience, this endeavor stays with the lean and mean style but ramps up the power to 11.

Napa Valley Petite Sirah 2020

Inky and dense, with aromas of violet and dark fruit. Multiple flavors hitting the palate, including blueberry and blackberry with a hint of earth supported by a tannic backbone. Still tight and a bit alcoholic; decanting improved things a bit but needs more time in the bottle. Good but not great. — 2 months ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

Mid 20th century fashionable country resort, popular with Hollywood due to 1892 stone Manor House & historic gardens. Blend of Cab Sauv, Merlot, Malbec, rest other Rhone varieties, aged 20 months in 37% new French oak. Dark Ruby, aromas of ripe berry fruits, herbs & spice. On the palate flavors of cherry and black currant with vanilla oak and earthy notes. Well balanced, fine tannins long finish ending with fruit, espresso notes and sweet spice! Nice now and will drink well over next decade. — 2 months ago
