Yes, to early-evening sunshine after being cooped up inside all day!! And, yes, to savoring a glass of delicious wine while we’re at it!!!
This wine is 60% Syrah, 40% Mourvèdre, hailing from the Pic Saint Loup appellation in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. It was produced by Château La Roque, which is certified biodynamic and practices low-intervention winemaking.
It offers a medium purple hue with medium (+) intensity of youthful aromas reminiscent of black cherry compote, blackberry sauce, ripe plum, also licorice, anise, peppercorn, nutmeg, tobacco, leather, peat, and cured meat (not tied to bottle aging).
This wine is dry with medium acidity, high alcohol (14.2%), a medium (+) body, medium (+) and grippy tannins, and medium (+) intensity in flavors consistent with the nose, but the pepper is more present on the palate than on the nose. The finish is medium (+).
This wine has balance, a strong structure, and great concentration of aromas and flavors. It’s beautiful.
We have tasted and loved many wines coming from this appellation (and the Languedoc-Roussillon region) lately. It's a region undoubtedly worth exploring.
Château La Roque Pic Saint Loup Rouge “Cupa Numismae” (2019) — 2 years ago
Organic and biodynamic wine. The nose is showing Grenadine, a bit of an irony thing (could it be brets?), cherry, blackberry and bit of heat. There is a floral thing too, violet and a bit of licorice too. The palate is rather smooth with a strong acid backbone, cherry and that Grenadine thing all around, not much weight but a nice width, a good grip, some drying tannins in mid palate and cherry, Grenadine and a bit of black pepper in the end. This is likely too young but pairs well with a roasted lamb leg. — 4 years ago
Very very nice. Light and crisp and perfect with our lunch of Dorrado, Escargot, and Crab Back! — 10 months ago

A small production is this white from Fazeda Agricola Augalevada in Ribeiro-Galicia. The grapes are predominately Treixadura (80%) with a bit of Albarino and Godello. It was raised in amphorae, which gives this Ollos de Roque an additional effect. Biodynamic principles apply, so it’s just grapes and nature in a bottle. The wine is very balanced, lots of ripe white fruit, minerality and acidity. No sign of ‘tiredness’ in this 2014 vintage, after 7 years of bottleage. — 3 years ago

Le Castellet ‘Les Galets’ Bandol Rosé 2020: Light-bodied. Medium-acidity. Rich flavors. Deep salmon in color with strawberry & watermelon notes. Dry crisp finish. This was an elegant & harmonious blend of 52% Mourvèdre, 26% Cinsault & 22% Grenache leaving me wanting another sip every time I attempted to put the glass down. All in all, this Bandol rosé was fantastic. Have a great day! Cheers🍷 — 3 years ago
Nose of black cherry, honeydew, and smoke(?!). Good black cherry fruit on the palate with medium acidity and lots of minerally bitterness. Typical provençal rose structure and weight with a kick of black cherry. — 4 years ago
