Roche Saint Martin

Pierre Brisset

Sous Roche Dumay Saint Aubin 1er Cru Chardonnay 2022

The 2022 “Sous Roche Dumay” pours a straw color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with remarkable notes of bright tropical and ripe orchard fruit, a lovely mix of yellow and white flowers and laden with chalky minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Be still, my beating heart…the acid! Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and delivers a serious dose of the minerals, keeping up with the two Raveneau enjoyed alongside. Brilliant. This was arguably the best of the three paired with the pôchouse bourguignon but really, all three worked well. Drink now through 2052. Thanks for the assist @Lyle Fass — 17 days ago

Château Montrose

Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2004

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2004 Montrose has a slightly rustic bouquet but is quite charming. It offers mainly red fruit, bacon fat, undergrowth and peaty scents, which are very Saint-Estèphe in style. The palate is medium-bodied with melted tannins. It is savory and a little dry, especially towards the finish, though there is good weight, and it is well balanced. Perfect to drink now. Domaines Martin

Château Gloria Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2021

Blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 14% Petit Verdot, aged in 40% new French oak, deep Ruby red with aromas of red and black fruits with oaky spice. On the palate flavors of black raspberry, currants and black cherry with licorice, toasty oak and tobacco. Fine lush tannins, long finish ending with fruit, oak and earthy tobacco spice. Drinking well now and will continue to develop! — 24 days ago

Domaine Dujac

Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2014

Delectable Wine
9.5

The 2014 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru puts in a convincing performance. With brambly red berry fruit on the nose, the coolness of the growing season allows the mineralité of this to really shine, with time in the glass revealing hints of autumn bonfire/fireside hearth. The palate is beautifully structured. It's saline with darker fruit than the aromatics. Quite linear and what you might call "vertical" in style, this is a superb expression of the Grand Cru that still needs a bit of time in bottle. (Neal Martin, Vinous, June 2024)

Château Ausone

Saint Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2004

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2004 Ausone has a mature bouquet with brambly red fruit, marmalade, leather and touches of cooked meat. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a little dry and more savory than expected. I feel there is something a little passé about this Ausone, indicative of the time when wines were being pushed a little hard and frankly, I much prefer more recent vintages (including the 2023 tasted alongside).
