A riddle wrapped in an enigma. Wooly lemony and tense. Chenin lovers would approve. One with which to think whilst having a drink. — 8 years ago
On the nose, ripe lean fruits of; strawberries, cherries, watermelon, tangerine. Citrus blossoms, baguette, chalky minerals and pink florals & rose petals. Strawberries, cherries, watermelon, black raspberries, tangerine with peel, baguette, soft razor sharp palate chalk, sea spray, medium intensity volcanic minerals, near perfect acidity with round, rich beautiful finish. Gold standard for rosé champagne and my go to rosé for the $. Photos of their champagne house, one of their vineyards, cellar A-frame rack to riddle the bottles and branded exterior property wall. Beautiful property! — 9 years ago
Cherry and fresh herbs. Delicate bubbles and a carbonation that takes forever to calm down. A favorite thus far — 2 years ago
medium straw color, pale watery rim; lemon, green apple, hints of white flowers; citrus, wet stone; medium body, good acidity, 14.1% ABV; the fruit comes mostly from Riddle Vineyard located on a ridge in Green Valley near the town of Occidental with small amounts from the vineyards represented in their single vineyard program; whole cluster pressed, barrel fermented, no less stirring, no new oak; very good value at $30 — 6 years ago
2016 Sine Qua Non "Rätsel 16" Syrah, originally “Cypher 16,” renamed because of potential legal problems with the rock band? Not sure of the backstory on that one, but it’s pretty clear that Rätsel (enigma, mystery, puzzle, riddle) is simply the German word for Cypher (a secret or disguised way of writing; a code). The wine however, not the band, is a monster. Gargantuan really. Typical SQN nose, and black as a moon-free, starless night sky in the stem. Tonight’s photo should not to be confused with Katie Bouman’s Black Hole masterpiece, although no light can escape from either. Very tight upon opening, singing an aria 36 hours later. SUPER concentrated with unlimited upside potential. More detailed tasting note to come. Yet another stunner! — 7 years ago

My first sip on the '06, and I'll be coming back for more... Very fine bubbles, quite elegant in the glass. Incredibly balanced between mineral, acid and Chardonnay fruit, hint of sweetness and salinity on the long finish.
Photos of the hand carved, chalk cellar halls that extend three levels below ground to age an amazing amount of wine and 3000ml bottles of the Brut Reserve resting in the riddling racks. They have one employee to riddle all their bottles, he turns about 44,000 bottles per day.
We got the extra special tour thanks to our trade affilliations, seeing bottles they usually don't allow the tours go any place near... Hiding deep the caves they are resting the Comte in the (2012) 3L jeroboam and (2012) 6L methuselah formats, OMG would I love to get my hands on one of those... Keep your eyes out, guessing they might hit the market in the next few years. 🍾🍾 They won't be cheap. — 8 years ago
Ah, the 2010 vintage of Ricardo Santos Malbec, a transcendental libation that beckons the soul into the labyrinthine depths of vinicultural exuberance. As I imbibed this elixir, my palate embarked on an odyssey through an enigmatic symphony of hedonistic flavors. The terroir speaks with the eloquence of a thousand poets, invoking an avant-garde pas de deux between dark fruit and enigmatic earthiness.
The tannins, oh, the tannins! Like philosophers engaged in a Socratic dialogue with one's senses, they debate their existence before yielding to a seductive silkiness that borders on a Vinous epiphany. Its finish lingers, not unlike the sermons of a zealous street preacher, echoing in the inner sanctum of one's mind.
In conclusion, Ricardo Santos' 2010 Malbec is a vinous riddle wrapped in an enigmatic enigma, destined to provoke laughter, tears, and existential contemplation. A masterpiece of humorous absurdity in a glass! — 3 years ago
