Quite an evolved reddy-brown colour, fairly transparent. Slightly high in acidity with a slightly feral, mustiness. Old school, and slightly unclean? On the palate is rose, violet and orange peel. It’s not as pleasing as the Barbera from the same vintage. — 6 years ago

Hiyu is one of the most interesting wine projects on the planet. Nate Reddy is conducting experiments with his 30 acres in Oregon that blur boundaries (like wine and cider) and genres and make you expand your concept for what is possible. The complexity of Tzum Feis is otherworldly and maybe the best winemaking I’ve seen stateside. A field blend, it has the minerality and greenness of excellent Loire Cab Franc and the graphite, cedar, and structure of Bordeaux. The aromas have candied orange peel, green bell pepper, cedar, and pencil shavings. Deep concentration and chewy well integrated tannin. Bravo. — 6 years ago
This wine crushed. Inky darky beautiful reddy goodness. Huge cherry bomb but without the sweet over extracted ca style. (Duh. Its not CA) much more of a palette encompassing cherry thang. Great length, not a tonne of sediment. Decanted. — 9 years ago
A very winey wine and reddy red — 12 years ago

"The third iteration of the Montepulciano shows similar characteristics to our 2015 and 2016. On the nose you'll find cigar box and cherry. The palate is clean and velvety with notes of cooked fruit, vanilla and cherry cola." — 6 years ago
Beautiful transparent reddy purple. Lifted aromatics, mid-weight and nice soft acidity that beckons another sip. Tasty and good value. — 6 years ago
Lavender and currants, spicy and tannic. — 7 years ago
Sweet, semi spicy chilled red. Yum! — 9 years ago
Glass-staining garnet purple. Moderate nose of dark fruit, earth, menthol. Palate confirms the nose with menthol becoming more like wood spices. Medium full body, firm tannins, medium plus acidity, medium long dark finish. In a great place and reddy for beef stew! — 12 years ago
Sweet winery nestled in West TX. — 2 years ago
Proper mature old world red. Bricked reddy brown colour, evolved well into secondary aromas of damp leaves and stewed fruits. Long length and an exotic and spicey element that marks it as different from claret. — 6 years ago
The weakest of the group yet still commands ones attention. — 6 years ago
Smockshop Band is a side project from Nate Reddy and the Hiyu team intended to showcase all that Columbia Gorge has to offer. Unlike literally everything else from Hiyu, this is a terrific value. It’s a rustic mix of red fruits and perfumed acetone - plenty of VA but the far reaching aromatic type that registers deep like a perfume. Unfiltered, robust, tannic, and full of deep cherry, dried strawberry, and sour blackberry. — 6 years ago

Excellent Montepulciano from Texas. Llano Estacado premier Texas wine maker. Smooth and berries with some chocolate in the taste mix. Soft tannins. Balanced. Great Texas wine. Had it with spinach lasagna. Yummy. — 10 years ago
I am a big fan of Llano wines. I went to school in Lubbock and this was the best winery we had. This was a very nice version of their Pinot Grigio, which is my favorite! — 12 years ago

Clear, medium plus ruby in color; on the nose, it's clean with medium intensity primary and secondary aromas of black plums, black pepper, and tobacco; on the palate, it's dry with high acidity, medium plus tannins, high alcohol, medium body, and pronounced primary and secondary flavors of blueberries, blackberry jam, tar, and black olives with a long finish. This wine needs to breath for a bit. The bitterness diminished after about an hour in the decanter and there is now a note of cocoa on the nose. This wine is balanced and intense. Overall, I rate this wine as very good. Nellie likes it too. — 7 days ago
