Château Musar
Gaston Hochar Grand Cru Red Blend
Still standing firm and resolute. Great wine, great vintage. Throwing a lot of sediment. Potpourri of dried red fruits and herbs.

May 25th, 2023Aromatic and expressive right out of the gate. Smoky, sanguine nose with elegance and soft velvety texture. Drinking really well now.

Jun 25th, 2021Proper mature old world red. Bricked reddy brown colour, evolved well into secondary aromas of damp leaves and stewed fruits. Long length and an exotic and spicey element that marks it as different from claret.

May 30th, 2022Here’s a new one: when I touched the cork with end of the Durand corkscrew, the cork slipped completely down into the wine. The wine itself was totally blasted.

DAY 1
Served this with the Vinlog System
Removed the soft cork with a Durand
👃Oh my! Cabernet notes, charcoal, earth, + a volatile element
👅Lovely red/purple fruit with plum sauce. Silky. Elegant
Remaining wine Slow Decanted in my refrigerator
DAY 14
👃Smoky strawberry jam, earth, dark fruit, & volatile notes. Are the volatile notes a Musar signature? They work for me👍
👅Cherry, plum and sweet BBQ notes. Soft, silky & elegant. Transparent tannins
Musar wines are known to be unique &
enigmatic. This was both and it was also really enjoyable👍🍷

A very crumbly cork gave me a bit of a fright. But a gentle decanting and two hours later, this wine was a delicious experience. Lovely brick red to dark red color, nose gave hints of dried red fruit and gentle spices. Light and delicate taste for such a mature wine, reminiscent of a light Port. Comes highly recommended; we enjoyed it with a Moroccan lamb tagine.
