Ronco di Sassi

Puglia Primitivo Malbec 2021

Clear, deep ruby to purple in color; on the nose, it's clean with pronounced primary and secondary aromas of blackberries, black cherries, and leather; on the palate, it's dry with medium acidity, medium tannins, high alcohol, full body, and pronounced primary and secondary flavors of blueberries, plum sauce, and clay pots with a long finish. This wine is intense and complex. Overall, I rate this wine as very good. — 3 months ago

I Sassi Greco

I find almond and pomegranate, freshly mown grass. Sweet palate with just enough acidity to keep it going. — 4 years ago

We loved this! The lingering taste was the best part of this, can’t wait to try it with food.

Toscana Vermentino

Not the most exciting grapes, but this is a revelation. Highly expressive, beautifully balanced dry white. Sunny, wild herbs, tasty dry white. Lidl €11.99 absolute bargain. — 8 years ago

PS Central Coast White Blend

The 2022 Piedra Sassi Viognier from the Santa Rita Hills- to no surprise- is a remarkably rich and full-bodied example of the varietal from out west. The nose is a powerful blend of kiwi, limestone, and other deeper earthy notes that I just don’t have the vocabulary to describe. Lots there. What I CAN say is that the palate and the finish as well round-out in a sumptuous and gratifying fashion. Not easy to make a Viognier like this outside of Virginia. Piedra Sassi has. — 9 months ago

Portami Via Rosso Ciliegiolo

Peppery and medium bodied. A lush taste without being being sweet. A lot of cherries and then blackberries, to finish a bit tart. — 4 years ago

Sassi del Mare

Rosso Maremma Toscana Sangiovese 2018

Cherry, red currant and almond on the nose. The palate shows a strong acid backbone, a shiny, tangy red fruit all along, a bit of width and some matter. A tannic wall with a grain comes up in mid palate, powering up a very long finish with that grain and red berries. It's not bad! Works better with food though — 5 years ago

Isogni Red Blend

Loved this wine! It was delicious now, 2017 vintage,& had just enough acidity, tannins, + nice structure. Not sure if it would hold up in the cellar. The all natural, organic, biodynamic wines are generally earlier drinkers. Would buy again if found! — 7 years ago

PS Santa Barbara County Syrah

While clearly a labor of love from a family who cares to express it, the 2021 Santa Barbara County Syrah needs time to breathe and allow to open itself up. While a little pour right from the rip is never a bad idea, this particular Piedra Sassi benefits and blossoms from a thorough decant and a smidge of patience. It must be said : I’m getting not only getting good gobs of both wholehearted and heartfelt tones of ‘home’, but deeper notes of some brilliant wine-making going on. This one’s going to be tough to beat for the $. — a year ago
