My first Batard-Montrachet and of course, it’s poured into a Solo cup because, Tailgate. Let’s go! The 2005 pours a deep golden color and on the nose, though it shows oxidative qualities, you can already perceive the concentration. Dried stone fruits mostly and pineapple “pate de fruit”, lemon, quince, and nuts. The palate was most fascinating. The attack was brighter with acid and chalk and more tart fruit but the finish was dense, round ripe and dry stone and pomaceous fruit that seemed to cling on the tonsils. Almost like two separate wines. Due to the concentration and acid, this probably has years to go but the oxidative character isn’t going away so I’d probably drink now. — 7 months ago
No formal notes . Medium yellow . Quite closed at first but a notable richness to it , ginger and yellow fruits , touch of struck match . On the palate really quite lively and fruited , lemon touches , very mineral and long on the palate . Good fresh acidity and good density . This is still quite young and benefited from time in the glass . From now and over the next 5-10 years . — 5 months ago
What a beautiful expression of Chardonnay in the glass. Both subtle and interesting on the nose, richness of color, and a perfectly balanced wine. And while the wine had a strong mineral foundation it was much more engaging than just a single note. So glad my cellar has several more bottles to enjoy in the years ahead. — 7 months ago
Needs a good decanting but it’s nicely aged now.. there’s a wonderful bouquet of fresh apple, grape, and nectarine, with notes of candied ginger, white pepper, kerosene, and peach blossom. The palate starts out with juicy golden apple and grape, followed by white peach cream puffs, with notes of roasted mango and papaya that show as it warms, and hints of powdered ginger and oregano on a long lingering finish. — 3 years ago
9-Liter! So powerful, it’s fresh, slight apple caramel tart with a touch of cinnamon. Pear (just ripe) brioche. Beautiful structure, so long, palate just stunning. Exceptional, — 3 months ago

The 2002 pours a bright yellow color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing and basically a meatball right down the middle of the plate. Powerful notes of ripe pineapple, some ripe stone fruit, lemon curd, marzipan, butter, minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and has a great acid and mineral zip that helps cut through the density. This is a Chardonnay that so many producers desperately want to make but there are so few that can execute with this level of precision. Of the three wines in this flight it was sort of overshadowed early by the Sauzet and the Leroy Aligote…but that changed when the food came. Paired with the roulade du lapin, this was without equal. Drink now through 2032. — 2 months ago
