Starting to fall in love with these Montepulciano reserves. This is a great one. Dark penetrating extracts of prune and dark tart cherry that unfold in your mouth like a 500 page book. Subtle, fine grained tannins carry the wine for a 3 minute lingering finish. Montepulciano wines are made from a special Sangiovese selection called Prugnolo gentile, a smaller berry with thinner skin than the larger berries from the Sangiovese grosso selection used in Brunello wines from Montalcino. Destiny flavor, needs a bit of an acquired taste , but once adapted they become addictive. — 4 years ago

In a constant casual search for birth year bottles, I came across this - I liked the smart label design and recognized the Eisele name, but wasn’t expecting much. Amazingly fresh and vibrant! Just starting to show elegant tertiary character of cigar box and incense, with a core of fresh berry and stone fruit. Palate is generous and velvety. A fantastic surprise and beautiful pairing for the old standby NY strip steak and roasted potatoes. — 6 years ago

1961. Wine older than me. Lots of cedar box and cigar. Tannin completely resolved. Lots of tertiary aromas and flavor. Can’t believe after all these years....still going strong. At Bern’s in Tampa. Page 85 of the 180 page wine list. More like a wine book. — 9 years ago

Bought this as an afterthought and quite pleased that I did. It's complex and rich, with blackcurrant/plum fruit, cedary oak and soft tannins all on the same page. Great value. — 5 years ago
828 cases made, 50/21/20 blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre, Sangiovese plus minor additions of Counoise, Petite Sirah and Barbera. Medium extracted pigment, very good clarity. Fruity nose, lightly tannic, cherryish flavors with notes of tangerine, mint, spearmint and white pepper. Pioneers of wine growing in Cochise County AZ. Paired it with grilled chicken and red mole, and also grilled salmon. Artisanal yet tasty — 5 years ago
Yet again, Bryan Page has knocked it out of the park. So inky, rich, juicy with a hint of spice. Think I got lucky and caught this one at the top of its game. Spectacular — 7 years ago
Very light for a Bordeaux even with age. Paired nicely with a smoked Turkey for Thanksgiving. — 9 years ago
2012 Greer Cabernet Sauvignon. My outright favorite Napa cab right now. 4 hour decant, crimson color, this wine has a killer explosive nose of dark fruits, cinnamon, baking spices, menthol and flint. Maybe a hint of flowers for @DAG Chocolate covered cherries, cocoa and espresso mid palate, and a touch of nutmeg with moderate trademark Rutherford dusty tannins in just the right proportion. Dense and concentrated. Not for the old world palate, which puts it squarely in my wheelhouse. Beautifully layered with a silky mouth feel, and a lingering finish. Just a baby, but who can resist pulling the cork. I'm obsessed with Greer. For the money, this Cabernet simply cannot be beat. A case of Greer or a bottle of Screagle? Seriously? If your palate is on the same page as mine, get you some. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. You rock Rob Greer. — 9 years ago

Finally got our couch! And our coffee table lesgoooo!
Sage leaf, orange zest, honey in the bouquet. And a little funk.
Wow. Zing! Karpow! Boom! I call this a comic book wine because it literally jumps off the page and into your taste buds.
Not bad at all. Thanks NYT. — 6 years ago
Quarantine materials ready. Creature comforts are getting me through this thing. Give me good coffee, pavement to pound, a pen that dances on the page, a worn notebook with still empty pages to fill, jazz weaving the air, and a bottle of wine, and I will kill all the time there is.
A magenta shawl in the glass.
Earth’s fragrance caught in a bottle. Sweet, sweet clay. Leather. Intense plums and orange zest. Sea breeze. This is a memorable and rich bouquet.
Subtle smoke quality reminiscent of the char in the bark of good brisket. A reserved dark fruit quality which is there, but just teases you as a spicy black peppercorn note swings in for a jab. It’s smooth.
An eloquence in the expression and structure. Like a mathematical proof or a line of poetry you cannot easily forget.
It slaps. — 6 years ago
This pale wine is subtle on its nose, with very light aromas of citrus and wet rocks. The sniff is not rendered tart by those descriptives, however. There is a softness to it that takes the edge away. The palate is another matter, as a rippingly joyous acidity makes itself known immediately. Flavors of crisp apples, lemons and a touch of orange are as vibrant as they seem here on the page, like a lovely spring day bathed in the cool wind of Galicia. The pleasure lasts long after the sip disappears. — 8 years ago
That’s Shiraz I enjoy. Not too big but showing the variety properly. We drank it too fast though. Curious what it would have been like after 2-3 hours. Thanks @Brad Page — 9 years ago
