School House Vineyard ’Mescolanza Syrah Blend’ 2012: Medium-full bodied. High acidity. Fine tannins. Bold dark fruits. Plum. Vanilla. Spice. Earth. Oak. Smooth fruity dry finish. Consisting of a mixed black blend of Syrah, Grenache & Mourvèdre, this mountain wine packed a lot of subtle but powerful fruit. For me, this was a pleasant representation of a Rhône style blend from the Spring Mountain District of Napa Valley. All in all, great depth, complexity & tremendous QPR! Happy weekend to all! Family home for Christmas so these are brief notes. Tawny notes to the colour when poured. Aromatic red fruits strawberry and cherry - light to medium weight palate. This Pinot was a cut above the normal even for a quality producer like Bindi. An undergrowth briary note which adds interest. We thoroughly enjoyed drinking this. I buy Bindi every year for good reasons. — a month ago
07 vintage. It’s in its peak so drink now. Delicious. Leathery tannins, forest floor, wet logs, black pepper. — 2 months ago
Since 2020 wild yeast fermentation with at least 20% whole cluster (layering in fermenter). They’ve been using whole cluster since 2010 hovering around 10-15% gradually increasing. 1992-1995 vintages not destemmed completely either. Sweet cola nut, cranberry, red juicy cherry, sweet baking spices. High acidity, medium soft tannins. 2018 meatier and weightier locking in at 13.6%. In 2020 they separated the native yeast vs non native yeast ferments. According to Tim, native yeast led to better alcohol conversion, richer wine at same alcohol compared to without.
Precious old vines and newly replanted vines. Completely dry farmed no drip lines at all! Some of which are suffering from Pierce’s disease and leafroll virus.
I was told back in 2016 Kelli White and her husband had a deal with John and Nancy to lease their vineyards but they backed off at the last minute… I for one memorized every little detail about School House from Kelli’s tome Napa Valley Then and Now

Blend of 50% Grenache and 50% Shiraz, deep Ruby with aromas of red fruits and herb spice. On the palate flavors of raspberry, plums and currants with herbs and spice. Fine tannins with slight grippy edge, medium+ finish ending with fruit and nutty herb spice. Good now! — 2 months ago
