My second set of wines to provide as part of a co-host event.
I picked these up during a visit to Morlet in the fall of ‘21. Sadly, these are the last of my initial stash. 58 semillon/36 SB/6 Muscat.
Poured blind for a group of 20 people at the end of a wine event, I was shocked that not one single person called this Cali. Many Sauternes, Barsac, and a few South African dessert wine guesses. It’s undeniably sporting botrytis flavors, but the richness has a wonderful spine of acidity. Honeyed mango, white peach and chock-full of orange blossom on the nose, there’s added candied spice and honeycomb on the palate. Didn’t pick up any nutty flavors (which I enjoy in Sauternes), but this was also fairly young. Extremely “fresh” for a dessert wine, if that makes sense. Best Cali dessert wine I’ve had, I think. — 4 months ago
My favorite pair with chocolate dessert. Not super sweet but has RS. Tastes like chocolate covered cherries. Beautiful transparent ruby in color. — a month ago
Dec 2023. Translucent red brick. Acetone blows off quickly, leaving a slightly oxidized nose of bright cherry, summer plums. Refreshing sweet sour palate, medium body. Love it slightly cooled. From half bottled in September 2003. Needed 20 years to mature and will last another 20. — 4 months ago
NOSE: sherry and brandy-like. Distinct raisin, caramel. Orange (candied), lozenge, varnish, vanilla, baking spices (cinnamon, clove, etc), Rum-like marshmallow. Irish (pot still) whiskey. Laffy taffy.
TASTE: More acidity than expected, over the top raisin. Sulphur (not in a bad way, in a raisin way). Chilled apple cinnamon hibiscus tea with sugar and orange juice. Not my style - but it is made well. 90.
EDIT: someone mentioned roasted nuts and they are right. — 2 years ago
A round interpretation of Madiran, a wine of character in essence. Balanced, with marked but soft and encompassing tannins.
Une interprétation toute en rondeur du Madiran, vin de caractère par essence. Équilibré, avec des tanins certes marqués mais doux et englobants. — 2 years ago
Exotic fruits, pineapple, passion fruit. On the grassy side, hay, peach in syrup, apricot... superbly in place for this 2015 with a potential for evolution over the next 25 years, potential evolution towards notes of dried fruit and nuts. Sweet without saturated sugar. Digestible and light. A real wine in the refined sense of the term. Magnificent on a Roquefort cheese.
— 2 years ago
