This vintage is 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Bright pale gold color. Aromas of citrus, tropical and green orchard fruit, white flowers and fresh herbs. Flavors of mango, grapefruit, gooseberry, lemon and nectarine fruit along with spent yeast (lees aging?) and those fresh leafy herbs. Lovely mineral note on the long and refreshing finish. Medium-plus body and a soft creamy (oak aging) texture. Crisp acidity and a high level of tension. Quite ripe and fruit forward but very well balanced. Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) and Merlot (40%). Aromas of ripe black and blue berries, earth, graphite and leather. Flavors of cassis, bramble berries, tobacco, sweet spices and woody herbs. Medium-plus length finish and well balanced acidity and a soft texture. A very light touch of oak. Well integrated tannins. Fresh, rich and silky. Christine Barbe is the winemaker at Coquerel and she brings years of experience with her, having worked at both Château Carbonnieux and La Louvière in Pessac-Léognan. Her deft handling of this crisp and enchanting white shows—the 2013 Le Petit Coquerel is artfully imbued with bruised pear, cucumber and lemongrass notes.
