Anecdote Lieu Dit Les "Varosses" Champagne Chardonnay

A clear shimmering gold color in glass with vivacious tiny bubbles that go on and on. Very pretty and stately in appearance. An absolute burst of orchard fruits on the nose with pears and peaches. A touch of grapefruit with a dab of honey. These floral notes are a bit enchanting and delicate. Hazelnuts and green apples abound the longer it grows in the glass.

When I think of Cédric Moussé, I automatically think of Meunier, as he is one of the Masters of Meunier. This Blanc de Blancs comes from plots in Cuisles and Jonquery originally planted with Pinot Meunier. Disgorged in 2019 with an Extra Brut of 2 g/l, this thing sings and is so delicious. The acidity is zesty and the structure is well balanced. Full of life and power.

The palate is charming from first sip to the last. Mirroring the nose, those pears and peaches tantalize while yeast makes you smile. Very mineral driven and plenty of chalky goodness. Apples become dominant as times goes on. The finish has nice length with some unexpected white pepper. A unique entry in the Moussé portfolio and it most definitely belongs.

Cuis 1er Cru Brut Blanc de Blanc Chardonnay Champagne

From a half bottle. Popped and poured; no formal notes. Persistent mousse. Lovely notes of white peach, pear, brioche and chalky minerals. Super well balanced. Gimonnet rarely disappoints. A multi-vintage blend from 2010-2019. Disgorged May 31, 2021. Dosage 6 g/L. — 5 months ago

Effusion Rosé Champagne Blend

One of my favorite rosés, and producers, year in and year out. Definitely rises above the so many other bottles of champagne that it can be compared to. And, it’s exceedingly pretty.

A light salmon pink color in the class. Nice persistent bubbles and effervescence. Strawberries upfront on the nose but there’s this kick of cinnamon that’s just so delightful. Some light brioche notes with cloves and dried herbs to compliment. Earth and cherries really start to express themselves after plenty of time in the glass. Such an intense, singular nose.

Cedric Moussé makes a spectacular range of champagnes but this one has a special spot in my heart. It’s just so unique and fun. 92/8 Pinot Meunier/Pinot Noir from two separate perpetual reserves and disgorged in July of 2020 with the low dosage of 1.5 g/l. Medium bodied but weighty and substantial.

Cherries and cream explode on the palate. Vivacious red fruit but so far away from being a standard issue fruit bomb rosé champagne. Nice minerality and subtle notes of herbs and earth. Long finish with an uptick of cream and acid. Mesmerizing and beautiful. One of my favorites for a reason.

Brut Champagne Blend

Blend of 45% Pinot Meunier, 25% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir, remaining 5% local varieties: Arbanne, Petit Meslier and Fromenteau, stainless vinification, pale lemon with aromas of stone fruit, citrus and floral notes. On the palate fresh fruit tastes of apple and peach with lemony tones. Great balance, good bubble bead flow, generous acidity, long ending with crisp citrus and mineral tones. — 9 months ago
