For context, I enjoy every wine Hudson puts out. I’ve enjoyed visits to their stunning property (a must visit even if wine isn’t your thing; the grounds/farm/garden are stunning) and have enjoyed a few laughs with Lee. I wasn’t aware this existed until my visit back in ‘24 and decided to finally open it when TX broke the 100 degree mark this summer.

100% Grenache

Deeper color then your typical Napa rosé but not full-on Tavel/deep saignee style. Aromatics of spiced dragonfruit, and rhubarb. Nervy acidity. Very Grenache-like with the spiced fruit profile continuing on to the palate…pink peppercorn, little green-ness but more from an herbs-type profile and not pyrazines. Fleshy black-cherries with nice texture. Not quite a pool-pounder but also not quite a contemplative style. In-between. Most importantly, tasty and refreshing in the heat of TX summers.

I think I have two more bottles and I’m desperately hoping that’s the case. Bought during a fabulous visit in ‘24 and a worthy replacement to Aubert (I love Aubert, but pricing is getting tough).

This was one of the wines I served for my annual WWC hosting. All wines served blind.

One of Hudson’s single block offerings from their famous vineyard. Everything you love about Hudson Chardonnays is here (rich, opulent, herb crusted yellow fruits) is here but the complexity is dialed up a touch. Yellow-gold in the glass. Initially a reductive funk aromatic but it dissipated and reversed a toasted marshmallow note I commonly get with Marcassin. Yellow fruits galore on the palate with wave after wave of flavor. Lemon cream, baking spices, salted croissant, all dance with good acidity and a lengthy finish. I’m always of the belief that Hudson fruit is at its prime when fresh, so don’t miss this window over the next few years. So good. — 3 months ago

Class and style in the glass leads to excessive positive reinforcement, which brings you back for another sip. It’s exotic on the nose and palate. This is a “wifey” rating…
Caramel and butterscotch notes on the nose and palate. Roasted pineapples and limes present on the mid palate, with a note of preserved citrus fruits. Evolving to a better place as it warms up in the glass. Getting better with bottle age. — 8 months ago

Abe, the man who would be king, gifted this bottle (amongst many others) to me after being an Intern in 2013. They travelled from Napa to London to Western Australia.
15 years later on a Monday night of a week I wasn’t meant to be drinking…
I pulled it out of the wine fridge in Margaret River. Cork fresh as a daisy and some decent sediment on first pour. Aerated with Vinturi and poured. Some early VA blew away and a Star Was Born. The floral powderiness on my mid palate is intoxicating. Never before have I tasted a big inky, 15% delicate ballerina like this. For a red lover, and not a fan of Chards, this wine knocked me off my feet! I absolutely Loved it! If I could describe my perfect request for a white wine, it would be this one. Butterscotch, almond, a slight fruity hint of lemon zest but not sharp or tart, buttery and bright yet incredibly smooth and a nice heavy feel. This is my favorite white wine ever! This is the 2016 Hudson Vineyard Little Bit. The first release of this select barrel Chardonnay. I’ve asked Delectable to add.

Coravining a taste to see if it will hold up under the backbone of a brined & rubbed Turkey.

The nose reveals candied & sour apple candy, meyer lemon, lemon heads, apricots, overripe pineapple, guava, beautiful medium intensity tropicals, buttered popcorn, honeycomb, bees wax, citrus blossoms, soft spice, butterscotch, lime candy, bread crust-brioche, caramel with fresh & withering yellow lilies.

The body is full, round, gorgeously sexy and like satin. The backbone, length, structure, tension and balance are incredible. Candied & sour green apple, golden honey crisp apple, meyer lemon, lemon heads, apricots, overripe pineapple, guava, green melon, nice tropicals, buttered popcorn, honeycomb, bees wax, citrus blossoms, allspice, butterscotch, caramel, lime candy, bread crust-brioche, caramel, limestone, volcanic minerals, dry river stones with fresh & withering yellow lilies and white spring flowers. The acidity is round & near perfect. The long finish is simply heaven over the palate...elegant, round and persistent as hell.

Only a 142 cases made and one of the best CA Chardonnay’s I’ve had in quite sometime. Get it before it’s gone.

This wine will continue to vastly improve with another 5-8 years in bottle. It’s an extremely rare comment from me but, this is a potential perfect score wine.
