@Ron Siegel no prob. Good to revisit. Had a few old vintages with the winemaker a few years back.

Caymus Vineyards

Suisun Valley Grand Durif 2021

Dark, inky crimson with a pale rose rim.
Bouquet of a forest of brambles and vegetables.
A sort of salinity sits in the center of the flavor, rounded out by other mineral complexities. The finish is medium-long with some acidity.

Grand Napa Vineyards

Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix.

Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim and medium intensity.

Pretty nose of red fruits with light wood, chocolates, sweet tobacco, and Indian spices.

Medium-plus in body and elegant with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with sweet raspberries, cherries, plums, light oak, licorice, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, spices, peppercorn and light earth.

Nice length on the finish with fine-grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 8-year-old Napa Cabernet is drinking very nicely now. Soft and smooth.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after 2 hours in the decanter.

Complex with good structure and mouthfeel. Spicy and fruit-forward. Delicious and interesting.

Wine Advocate 93 points.

I've had a few vintages of this wine, and it is always tasty.

Easy drinking and good by itself or with food. I paired it with cheeses and crackers.

A blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot. Aged in (60% new) French oak barrels for 24 months.

14.6% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$110 (at release).

Kapcsándy Family Winery

Grand Vin State Lane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Popped and poured on July 4th after enjoying the day’s frivolities; enjoyed over the following few days and consistent throughout. The 2011 pours a deep ruby/purple color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tart and ripe dark fruits: plums, brambles, cassis, espresso, mushrooms, leather, purple flowers, toe jam, earth and Christmas fruit cake. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose though the fruit comes across much fresher on the palate. The finish is medium+. The texture is soft and super silky. Despite 2011 being a challenging vintage from a Napa perspective, this was quite distinctive and complex, though maybe lacking a bit of stuffing. Stylistically however, this Kapcsándy is a refreshing take on a modern Napa Valley, Cabernet-based blend at a svelte 13.9% ABV. Bravo! Drink now through 2031. — 7 months ago
