Jouvet Cornas Syrah 2016

A beautiful if restaurant-over-priced Cornas (embarrassed to say $$) that was stunning in its elegance and purity, haunting in its smooth entry and blood/iron notes, and loooonnng finish with grapey not woody tannins. Needs 3-5 yrs. — 5 years ago

Les Contours de Mairlant Marsanne Roussane 2018

Charcterful niiiice white! Honeymelon and lichie with a long taste on the palate. Starts a little bit musty on day one. So maybe give some air to enjoy without any disturbing mustyness. — 3 years ago

Cépages d'Or Alder Springs Vineyard Marsanne Roussanne 2017

Last week was a combo of 4th Friday and Open That Bottle Night on back to back nights. Needless to say, the lineup between both days was full of heavy hitters, so I’m only posting standout bottles.

A really nice Rhône white courtesy of the tandem François Villard and
@Donald Patz . Floral notes of honeysuckle, lemon, sea salt and soft pineapple. Waxy profile that I tend to get with these Rhône whites, showing thyme, hint of orange blossom and honeyed stone fruits.

Le Grand Vallon Condrieu Viognier 2004

Opened and decanted about an hour prior to service and presented double-blind. The wine appears deep yellow nearing gold in color; medium+ viscosity. On the nose, the wine is vinous and super floral with peaches and marzipan and some signs of oak, a portion new French oak. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium- acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, weighty with a pronounced oily texture. Alcohol is elevated. I called Marsanne/Roussanne blend from France, Northern Rhône, Hermitage Blanc with 15+ years of age. Close! The florals and elevate alcohol should have steered me to Condrieu but that’s hindsight. Regardless, this was a delicious reminder to allow Northern Rhône whites to age. Drink now. — 4 months ago
