Bottle #2. Do you think maybe Realm will let Dave buy a bottle of the Beckstoffer Dr. Crane now? Nah, me neither. — 2 months ago

Myriad Cellars

Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Shay A
9.4

After my annual Napa trip, and a few days home of drying out, I wanted a well aged Napa cab to bring me back in.

I gave this a 3hr double decant before trying. I snuck a small glass on opening and it was sporting an uber youthful bite and not much on the finish. After I gave it time, it really fleshed out and bulked up quite a bit. Poured alongside a 2012 Alpha Omega Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper, the Myriad was the group favorite, but it obviously depends on a style preference. The AO was more elegant and finesse driven whereas the Myriad was powerful. Had a classical DrCrane scorched earth flair on the nose but plenty of ripe red and black fruits alongside mocha, dark baking spices and sweet toasted oak (very much in the background). The palate was licorice, tar, and mixed dark berry pie with fine grained tannin on the finish. I’d say this is now in a prime window if you can give it time, but I’m hard pressed to say this gets better…I think it just gets different.

Elysian Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Smell is much more intense, bright and more basic ” milk”. So fragrant. More floral. Cedar. Omelet.
Wow, taste is very bright and finish is super intense.

Bevan Cellars

Dr. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Jeb & Parker 💯,
I bought a case for flipping purposes, but after discussions with
@Severn Goodwin yesterday I became intrigued🤔. Its actually not as big a fruit bomb as anticipated,. Has some structural appeal & depth to it. But I still don’t know how you can tell the difference between Bevan, Myriad & Maybach and probably Silver Oak but it’s been awhile.

I’ve bought a ton of Bevan over the years and probably would of given this 98-100 as well a couple years ago. But I’m losing my taste for the big fruit forward wines nowadays🤷🏼‍♂️

Spottswoode

Family Estate Grown St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Dryer but with good fruits. Dark berries. Mineral finish. Integrated and intense. Flavor lingers. End palette is a little spicy and baking spice. This one is more integrated but flatter than the dr crane.

Smell- bell peppers with hands covered, spicy.
