Classic Series Colchagua Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Not sure why this is rated relatively low, as the 2014 vintage was exceptional (and ranked in the top 50 of Wine Spectator’s Best of 2016 list). Big aromas of cigar box and hard candy, mouth-watering tastes of strawberry jam, cedar and caramel... and most astonishingly, it retails for $15. Get some - now! — 12 hours ago

Very ripe color. Oak and oddly chocolate and cherry aroma but no vanilla. Cherry and chocolate on the tongue. Smooth. Balanced tannins — 21 days ago

Gran Reserva Valle de Colchagua Carménère 2014

Green peeper tootsie roll - the nose carries into the flavour. After all, what is your taste without your olfactory?

Green pepper, medium to heavy bodied, velvety fruits, dried grapes, pressed into juice.

Well integrated tannins, with just a touch of mineral like acidity.

As we leave for South America tomorrow, celebrating with a wine we brought back from Chile 2 years ago, after trekking through Patagonia. Love South American wines. The best bang for the buck, and so many hidden treasures.

Espíritu de Apalta Colchagua Valley Carménère Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

9.5

This is the 2011 Veramonte Neyen Espiritu de Apalta from Colchagua Valley. I’ve asked Delectable to add it.

This was my best wine and best red Chilean wine I had in 8 days of tasting 12 different producers.

On the nose; dark ruby, ripe, currants, blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, plum with strawberries on the edges, dark rich, semi-sweet soil, black licorice, very light herbal notes, light black pepper, leather, sweet tarry notes, vanilla, cinnamon, core of anise, sweet loamy top soil, dry stems with dark fresh, perfumed florals and violets.

On the palate, the body is round and full. The tannins are round and velvety. Dark ruby, ripe, currants, blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, plum with strawberries on the edges. Dark rich, semi-sweet soil, black licorice, very light herbal notes, light black pepper, leather, dry crushed rock powder, tobacco leaf, vanilla, sweet tarry notes, cinnamon, core of anise, sweet loamy top soil, dry stems and dark fresh, elegant, perfumed florals and violets. The acidy is fresh, round and excellent. The long, ripe, ruby, elegant, well balanced, sexy, finish is drop dead gorgeous and lasts minutes.

Photos of; a side view from their entrance that shows the Chilean flag, coastal mountain range, the start of fall colors and their Estate vines. Branded wood carved bench, foxtails in bloom and their beautiful pound on the front grounds.

On the nose; ripe, ruby, dark currants. Blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, plum and blue fruit hues. Sweet dark, rich soil and tarry notes, black licorice, some pepper, light herbaceous notes, spice and dark fresh lavender and violets.

The body is medium full. The tannins are firm, sticky and a touch meaty. Dark currants, blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, dark cherries with strawberries haunting in and out on the palate. Dark rich soils, sweet tarry notes, black licorice, medium dark spice, cinnamon, clove, cinnamon, vanilla, soft leather, touch of herbaceousiness, tobacco leaf, crushed dry rocks, loamy dry soils, dark fresh red florals with violets. Round beautiful acidity and a rich, elegant, polished finish.

Photos of; a beautiful shot of the coastal range, road sign with the latitude location of their vina, my wife’s Hollywood pose after she has done two Viña tastings and the sheep animals in their lobby.
