Salvatore Viognier 2017

Hints of peach, orange, pear, lemon, and apples- a literal cornucopia of fresh fruit! Nicely blended viognier- bright, crisp and refreshing with a long, creamy finish. Pleasantly surprised with this northwestern transplant’s AZ winery, which has won the San Francisco Chronicle’s best wine competition four years in a row. — 5 months ago

El Norte Red Blend 2014

Cimarron Vineyard. 50/24/9/9/8 blend of Monastrell, Garnacha, Syrah, Petite Sirah and Counoise. 15% alc/vol. I love the screw cap (seriously). Purple-red, light to moderate pigment extraction, very good clarity. Red fruit “fruit leather” and funk in nose. Cherry, raspberry flavors, cola with length on finish, nice acidity with light skin astringency on finish. A menthol flavor emerges after two hours, while the cola flavor recedes. Still an easy-drinking style as suggested by reviews here of earlier vintages. — 8 months ago

Carlson Creek

Rule of Three Syrah Blend 2015

Arizona GSM, 40/20/40 blend, 14% alc/vol. Purple-red, moderate pigment extraction. Butter floral and red fruit aromas. Cherry, berry, cola and black currant flavors, slight seed bitterness and skin astringency on finish. A solid interpretation, not overly ripe vs other similar wines from the same origin. — 8 months ago

Pillsbury Wine Company

Roan Red Red Blend 2016

50/30/20 blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Ruby red, light to moderate pigment extraction. Funk, spearmint, cranberry, raspberry and herb (thyme) in nose. Black currant, cherry and black pepper flavors. Intense flavors form quickly after initial pour. Ideally, decant two hours to allow the fine-grained skin tannin astringency to dampen. — 8 months ago

Wildchild Red Cochise County Red Blend 2017

On my Arizona tour, so tasting as many local wines as I can while I’m here. Purple-red, moderately extracted pigment. Blackberry, blueberry and black licorice notes in nose. Similar flavors in mouth, some skin astringency on finish, but nice rounded mouthfeel overall. Ripe fruity, syrupy, almost plummy aftertaste. Cherry with some plum flavors after four hours. 50/25/25 blend of Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache, 14.0% alc/vol, 396 cases made. — 8 months ago
