Probably my favorite tokaji that isn’t a dessert version. Similar notes as a 5 puttnoy, but not as long of a finish. Caramel, apricot, licorice flavors envelop your taste buds. Delicious — a year ago
Quite unusual white, in the sense I haven’t had something like it. Leans more like a Sauvignon Blanc with the acidity, lemon hints, has a short semi sweet finish. I’m def a fan of this wine on a hot day — 2 years ago

Megyer Tokaji Aszú – 5 Puttonyos – 2018
Tokaj, Hungary 🇭🇺
Overview
A classic Tokaji Aszú from the historic Megyer estate, produced at the 5 Puttonyos level, showcasing remarkable concentration and balance. Made primarily from botrytized Furmint (with traditional Tokaj varieties in support), this 2018 vintage delivers richness without excess, earning its place as one of the world’s great sweet wines. A true expression of Tokaj’s heritage — Vinum Regum, Rex Vinorum.
Aromas & Flavors
Intensely aromatic and layered. Dominant notes of ripe apricot and dried stone fruit lead the profile, followed by candied lemon peel, honeycomb, orange blossom, and a creamy custard-like richness. Subtle spice and tea notes add depth as the wine opens.
Mouthfeel
Lusciously textured yet impeccably balanced. The sweetness is substantial but beautifully countered by Tokaj’s signature high acidity, giving the wine lift, freshness, and precision. The finish is long, radiant, and mouth-coating, truly “liquid gold.”
Food Pairings
Blue cheeses, foie gras, almond or apricot-based desserts, crème brûlée, or simply enjoyed on its own as a contemplative dessert wine.
Verdict
A top-tier Tokaji Aszú that delivers complexity, balance, and emotional impact. Rich, elegant, and unforgettable, a benchmark example of why Tokaj remains the reference point for noble sweet wines. Cheers!
Did You Know?
The Puttonyos system historically measured the number of baskets of botrytized grapes added to the base wine; 5 Puttonyos represents a high level of sweetness and concentration while still preserving vibrancy and structure.
🍷 Personal Pick Highlight
A truly memorable bottle, enjoyed on Tokaji Day (December 10-2025), which made the experience even more special. Worth every penny and a reminder of why Tokaji is rightly called the king of wines, the wine of kings. — 7 months ago

Megyer Tokaji Dry Furmint 2022
Tokaj, Hungary 🇭🇺
Overview
A completely different side of Tokaj from the world-famous sweet Aszú wines. This dry Furmint showcases the grape’s naturally high acidity, minerality, and tension-driven structure. Crisp, energetic, and refreshingly sharp, it demonstrates why dry Tokaji wines have become increasingly respected among white wine enthusiasts seeking precision and character.
Aromas & Flavors
Green apple, lime zest, quince, white peach skin, and citrus blossom dominate the profile, followed by subtle smoky-mineral notes and a touch of wet stone. There is a quiet complexity underneath the freshness that slowly unfolds in the glass.
Mouthfeel
Light to medium-bodied with bright acidity and a very crisp backbone. Tense, linear, and refreshing, yet still carrying enough texture to remain engaging. The finish is long, clean, and mineral-driven.
Food Pairings
Excellent with oysters, sushi, ceviche, grilled fish, goat cheese, fresh salads, or lighter Central European cuisine.
Verdict
A fantastic introduction to dry Furmint and a reminder that Tokaj is far more than sweet wine territory. Crisp, distinctive, and food-friendly, this is a wine for drinkers who appreciate acidity, freshness, and terroir expression over overt fruitiness.
Did You Know?
Furmint is the backbone grape of the legendary Tokaji Aszú wines, but in dry form it can produce wines with Chablis-like tension and Riesling-like acidity, making it one of Central Europe’s most exciting white varieties.
🍷 Personal Pick
This style always feels intellectually fun to drink because it surprises people expecting sweetness. The balance between crisp acidity, minerality, and subtle complexity makes dry Tokaji one of the most underrated white wine categories in the world. Cheers! — a month ago
