Back in 1995, Tenuta La Massa’s “Giorgio Primo” was a different wine than the version that is made today. Back then, Sangiovese was a predominate variety in the blend. So much so, it was still carrying the Chianti Classico designation. Today, I’m not so sure any Sangiovese remains, but I digress.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 1995 “Giorgio Primo” pours a deep garnet with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of dessicated Morello cherry, red flowers, leather bound books, porchini, tiramisu, wood varnish, dry earth. Yes, definitely some VA. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This sees a little more barrique than I prefer but it’s undoubtedly an excellent wine. Drink now through 2030. — 2 months ago

Dark cherry fruit, soft and plumpy.
This wine with salumi or a pizza is a crcker of a wine. Even some cheese. Some piedmontese robiola would be a great match.😋 — 15 days ago

Medium orange-rimmed ruby in color. Not too expressive on the nose: some dried flowers, albeit with stems and potting soil. Medium plus bodied. Medium minus acidity. Dry with nice initial palate feel but then gives way to bitterness and somewhat rough tannins. Medium alcohol at 14.0ABV but feels hotter. Some cranberry/unripe strawberry left, but not much else--pehaps some woody vanilla. At 8 years old, I would expect some tertiary flavors to have begun to develop. I don't think this is improving. It's a strong Brunello with a stiff upper lip, would pair well with a Florentine steak, but not elegant.
